3 Relationships From "The Penthouse 3" To Keep An Eye On

“The Penthouse 3” is maintaining its level of popularity with its riveting ride of twists and turns. Just four episodes in, related clips have surpassed 20,050,000 views, and the series has topped the list of weekly mini-series for four consecutive weeks on viewership ratings.

As SBS’s title Friday drama, “The Penthouse 3” has also made impressive records on online platforms as Oh Yoon Hee’s (Eugene’s) death signaled the beginning of another chapter in the storyline. Before her death, Oh Yoon Hee found out the truth behind Joo Dan Tae (Uhm Ki Joon) and Yoo Dong Pil’s (Park Ho San’s) history from six years ago and Joo Seok Kyung (Han Ji Hyun) being Shim Soo Ryun’s (Lee Ji Ah) biological daughter. With key plot points revealed, the dynamics between key characters are set to change. The following are three such relationships to keep an eye on!

1. Oh Yoon Hee and Joo Dan Tae: “Shim Soo Ryun will die because of you wretched woman. You just watch.”

Oh Yoon Hee’s search for Shim Soo Ryun’s remaining biological child led her to a Pandora’s box containing the truths behind Joo Dan Tae and Yoo Dong Pil’s encounter from six years ago and the fact that Joo Seok Kyung is actually Shim Soo Ryun’s biological daughter. When she confronted Joo Dan Tae regarding her findings, even yelling about the biological mother of Joo Hye In (Na So Ye), Joo Dan Tae warned her, “I’m telling you, Shim Soo Ryun will die because of you wretched woman. You just watch.” After finding out that Oh Yoon Hee was attempting to perform a maternity test for Shim Soo Ryun and Joo Seok Kyung, Joo Dan Tae pressured her on the edge of a cliff. Soon after, Oh Yoon Hee’s dead body was found at Hera Palace’s fountain. The happenings that make up the time in between are yet to be revealed.

2. Shim Soo Ryun and Joo Seok Kyung: “Seok Kyung is your biological daughter, your daughter is alive!”

Eighteen years ago, Shim Soo Ryun’s husband was attacked and killed by a mysterious man, shocking her and putting her in a coma. She gave birth to twins under such conditions where one infant was stillborn and Min Seol Ah (Jo Soo Min) barely made it. But the tables turned when it was revealed that the assumed stillborn actually made it out healthier and the maternity test results proved that Joo Seok Kyung was Shim Soo Ryun’s biological daughter. Regardless, the mother and daughter’s relationship worsened with Joo Seok Kyung’s ambition to attend Seoul National University, Joo Dan Tae’s intentions to drive a wedge between the two, and Shim Soo Ryun’s decision to expel her daughter from school. At the end of the fourth episode, Joo Seok Kyung met with Joo Dan Tae at his request and closed her eyes after drinking juice. The truths that Joo Dan Tae worked so hard to keep unknown are out, and the mother and daughter relationship has come to a fork in the road.

3. Joo Dan Tae and Yoo Dong Pil: “What are you so surprised about, murderer?”

Six years ago, Joo Dan Tae was threatened by Kim Mi Sook, Joo Hye In’s mother. Joo Hye In knew the truth behind Joo Seok Kyung being Shim Soo Ryun’s daughter, and the constant blackmailing from her mother drove Joo Dan Tae to become furious and murder Kim Mi Sook. When Yoo Dong Pil turned up to the scene, Joo Dan Tae begged on his knees to please take care of the body on his behalf. Yoo Dong Pil went on to serve a six year sentence for murder in Joo Dan Tae’s stead. After his release, he began to search for the only evidence to set things right, Kim Mi Sook’s body. When he started to work on the fountain for this purpose, Joo Dan Tae noticed that it was strange and started to keep an eye on Yoo Dong Pil. And in the end, the body Yoo Dong Pil discovered at the fountain was not of Kim Mi Sook, but rather of Oh Yoon Hee. In the exact moment he was left in shock, Joo Dan Tae appeared at the scene and said with an eerie smile, “What are you surprised about, murderer?” Yoo Dong Pil is set to face another round of tough times, but will he be able to take his revenge on Joo Dan Tae?

The production team commented, “Please look forward to the unpredictable twists that will take place again in the second act of ‘The Penthouse 3,’ set off by Oh Yoon Hee’s death.”
