Son Dam Bi Shares That She Hasn't Given Up On Being A Singer + Talks About Being Moved By "How Do You Play?"

Son Dam Bi recently hosted a Q&A session on her personal YouTube channel in which she talked about being moved by the project group MSG Wannabe on MBC’s “How Do You Play?”.

One question came from a fan who was curious about her next project. Son Dam Bi is a singer and actress but has not released new music since 2013 and has not starred in a drama since 2019’s “When the Camellia Blooms.”

Son Dam Bi replied, “I’ve been resting for a really long time. I’ve been worried about this a lot. The aftereffects of ‘When the Camellia Blooms’ disappeared a long time ago and I want to make a new transformation, but I haven’t been able to find a project that I like yet. I don’t know what character I’ll play next but I’ve been reading many different things at my own pace. I often think that I’d like to try something completely new these days, like an action or a villain role.”

Son Dam Bi added that she had not given up on being a singer. She shared that she had actually been planning to release a new song when the casting offer for “When the Camellia Blooms” came in.

“I couldn’t lose the chance to appear in the drama,” she explained. “I was in the middle of recording when the casting offer came in. I haven’t given up on being a singer, but ‘When the Camellia Blooms’ was so good that I had to do it. I don’t feel regrets about pushing my new music back. I believe there will be a chance someday and I haven’t given up.”

Asked if she missed her time as a singer, she replied, “I recently cried while watching Big Mama perform on ‘How Do You Play?’ It reminded me of the past. They were legendary seniors, but they slowly disappeared from the public’s minds as time went by. I also missed my days as a singer while watching SG Wannabe [the group that MSG Wannabe is based on]. I thought that I’d forgotten it all, but it brought back those memories again. That’s the strength of ‘How Do You Play?’ I think that lots of people who used to be singers, like me, had the same thoughts. I watched with Jung Ryeo Won and we both cried.”

Jung Ryeo Won and Son Dam Bi are known to be close friends. Although she is now active only as an actress, Jung Ryeo Won began her entertainment industry career as a singer in the girl group Chakra.
