BTS Soars Back To No. 1 On Billboard’s Hot 100 + “Butter” Wraps Up Perfect Streak As No. 1 Song Of The Summer

It’s official: BTS’s “Butter” is Billboard’s 2021 Song of the Summer—and it’s also back on top of the Hot 100 this week!

On September 7 local time, Billboard announced that BTS’s smash hit “Butter” had returned to No. 1 on its famous Hot 100 chart (its weekly ranking of the most popular songs in the United States).

“Butter,” which overtook “Dynamite” last week to become the longest-running top 10 hit on the Hot 100 by a Korean act, jumped back up from No. 7 to top this week’s chart after the release of its new remix featuring Megan Thee Stallion.

The latest chart marks the song’s 10th non-consecutive week at No. 1, making it only the 40th single in the 63-year history of the Hot 100 to spend 10 or more weeks at the top of the chart.

As the summer draws to a close, “Butter” also came in at No. 1 on Billboard’s annual Songs of the Summer chart for 2021, wrapping up a perfect streak of having topped every single weekly chart this summer. (Each year, Billboard updates its running tally of the most popular tracks of the summer every week from Memorial Day through Labor Day—and “Butter” never once missed the top spot.)

Additionally, “Butter” topped Billboard’s Digital Song Sales chart as the top-selling song of the week, marking its 14th week at No. 1. According to MRC Data (formerly Nielsen Music), the song garnered 12.2 million radio airplay audience impressions, racked up 10.7 million streams, and sold 143,000 downloads in the week ending on September 2.

Finally, “Butter” re-entered Billboard’s Streaming Songs chart at No. 35.

While Billboard did not credit Megan Thee Stallion on the Hot 100 or the Digital Song Sales chart (as BTS’s original song and other remixes outpaced her new remix in sales and overall metrics), BTS and Big Hit Music made sure to show love for the American rapper by mentioning her in their official tweets about their latest achievement.

Congratulations to BTS on an amazing summer!
