Park Hae Soo, Claudia Kim, And Lee Hee Joon Reveal What Viewers Should Keep Their Eye On In “Chimera”
“Chimera” is about a violent crimes detective named Cha Jae Hwan (Park Hae Soo), a criminal profiler named Eugene Hathaway (Claudia Kim), and a surgeon named Lee Joong Yeob (Lee Hee Joon), who each for their own reasons are searching for the truth behind “Chimera,” a serial explosion case from 35 years ago.
A chemical criminal
Although there are many dramas about tracking down serial killers, “Chimera” is unusual in that the criminal uses explosions as his trademark. For the first time, viewers will be able to see how the police and criminal profilers investigate chemical crimes, where evidence is usually harder to find.
Director Kim Do Hoon said, “For the explosion scenes, we put safety first and filmed them extremely carefully with detailed preparations. The point of ‘Chimera’ is not simply that it shows explosions and other dangerous scenes in a realistic manner, but it also explains chemical knowledge and the principles of the investigation process in a way that’s easy to understand.”
Characters caught between cooperation and conflict
Park Hae Soo, Lee Hee Joon, and Claudia Kim picked their characters’ shifting relationships as one of the key points of the drama. Park Hae Soo and Lee Hee Joon said, “When an incident that’s similar to a case from 35 years ago occurs, the characters seek out the connection and hidden truths behind the case. Each of them have different motives about discovering the real criminal, incident, and the truth. Viewers will be able to feel the tension as they partner up, doubt each other, and get into conflict.
Claudia Kim added, Cha Jae Hwan, Eugene, and Lee Joong Yeob all have strong personalities with hidden twists. There’s entertainment in seeing their friction and their powerful chemistry when they’re together.”
Plot twists: Who is “Chimera”?
The main question of “Chimera” is the identity of Chimera, the killer behind the serial explosions 35 years ago. The actors shared, “We had no idea who the real criminal was until the second half of filming. As the story goes on, everyone starts to look like the criminal, so viewers will be able to stay immersed in the tension until the very end.”
Director Kim Do Hoon said, “‘Chimera’ is about characters who are caught inside the tragedy of a painful past and how they can escape their fate. Please look forward to the characters’ backstories that have been bottled up for 35 years and how each of them overcomes the tragedies they have been caught inside.”
“Chimera” premieres on October 30 at 10:30 p.m. KST and will be available on Viki.
