Park Hyung Sik, Han Hyo Joo, And Jo Woo Jin Pick 3 Keywords To Describe Upcoming Thriller Drama

tvN’s new drama “Happiness” premieres tonight!

Set in the near future, “Happiness” is an apocalyptic urban thriller that takes place in an apartment building stratified by social standing. The high-rise apartment building is sealed off when a new infectious disease emerges, and the drama depicts the fear, psychological battles, and desperate struggles for survival that ensue.

Ahead of the drama’s premiere, stars Han Hyo Joo, Park Hyung Sik, and Jo Woo Jin each shared keywords to look out for in the show.

Han Hyo Joo plays Yoon Sae Bom, a tactical agent in the Seoul Police Special Operations Unit. As her keyword, the actress chose “people,” explaining, “Even if you face the same situation, the way you overcome and resolve the situation is different for every person. You’ll be able to see the different ways that different people, similar to those we likely know in real life, navigate danger. It’s pretty realistic and I think it’ll become a drama that presents a variety of questions without feeling heavy.”

“The infectious disease is only the premise of the drama, and there will be more fun in watching how people change amid that,” she continued. “Because it’s a story that takes place within the sealed-off apartment building, many different actors who are full of charm will appear [in the drama]. I think it’ll capture the atmosphere of our filming set and the collaboration of our great team. More than anything, it’s fun. Please give [the drama] lots of interest.”

Park Hyung Sik plays Jung Yi Hyun, a detective in the violent crimes division. Regarding why he chose the drama, he shared, “When I read the script, I thought the way the characters were portrayed and the plot development were new and fun. The characters’ emotional transformations through these dramatic situations will be refreshingly different.”

The actor chose “love of humanity” as his keyword and elaborated, “Although it’s extremely complicated to explain, I think that ultimately, the meaning of ‘Happiness’ is love of humanity. There’s a hopeful message that even in an extreme situation of horror, if you think of everyone instead of just yourself, you can overcome the situation we’re currently enduring.”

As “Happiness” is his first acting project since being discharged from the military, Park Hyung Sik continued, “I’m returning with a drama for the first time in a while. It’s such an honor, and I’m so happy to greet you through ‘Happiness’ along with our great writer, director, and actors. Our dependable writer, director, and actors have created a really fun drama that’s overflowing with energy. I hope our viewers also feel that fun and energy.”

Jo Woo Jin plays Han Tae Suk, the man in the Armed Forces Medical Command in charge of finding the source of the disease and stopping its spread. He commented, “I really was looking forward to working with the people [in the cast and crew], to the point where I wondered whether I’d have another opportunity like this as an actor. I thought that if I were with these people, it’d be a ‘happy’ time. There was no reason not to do this project.”

For his keyword, Jo Woo Jin chose “empathy.” He shared, “Because of the new infectious disease, everyone’s daily lives fall apart. While being in this closed-off space gives rise to a realistic type of horror as our typical values begin to sway and we start to doubt and become wary of each other, there are also emotions that you aren’t able to feel while watching [dramas and films] with similar subject matter. It’ll become a drama that combines the fun of the genre with new emotions. I hope that our drama can become a time where viewers rediscover the happiness we’ve momentarily forgotten about.”

“Happiness” premieres on November 5 at 10:40 p.m. KST on TVING and tvN and will also be available on Viki.
