Wonho Talks About Dark And Sexy Concept Behind New Album "OBSESSION"

In a recent interview, Wonho talked about the concept behind his new solo album “OBSESSION” and the title track “EYE ON YOU.” It is his first comeback since releasing the album “Blue Letter” five months ago.

Composed and written by Wonho, “EYE ON YOU” is an electro house pop song that synergizes well with Wonho’s vocals. It is a sexy song that is minimalistic yet dark and powerful. He explained the concept of the song saying, “‘EYE ON YOU’ is a song with composition and sound that are not easily found in existing K-pop. Powerful bass and heavy drums gradually heighten the atmosphere, and a dark, powerful, sexiness is added so I think you can feel my various charms.”

When asked about why he made it the title track of the album, he said, “The vibes of the two songs [on the single album] are very different, so I thought a lot about selecting the title song. The reason I chose ‘EYE ON YOU’ was I wanted to try a new genre and I wanted to convey my music properly.”

The choreography in the new music video is eye-catching and vibrant. When asked about what he focused on most, he said, “As it’s the first time I’m trying this genre, I also tried something new in the performance. For the first time, both male and female dancers participated, so you can feel a vibrant performance. In the chorus of ‘EYE ON YOU,’ we make our hands into circles and put them in front of our eyes. I tried to make a formation that reminds you of the pupil of the eyes, and a shape of the beginning and the end of the eyes, so I hope you don’t miss this part.”

Through his new album, Wonho explained that he wanted to show off a more dark and sexy appearance. He elaborated, “Through ‘OBSESSION,’ viewers can meet a darker and sexier appearance of Wonho. Since the concept of this album is clearly different from ‘Blue Letter,’ I think it will be an album where people can feel the various charms of how I can do this well and that well. Going forward, I will become a Wonho who can grow, develop, and show various charms.”

He later explained that his goals for this year are to connect with fans around the world and to hopefully meet fans once the COVID-19 situation improves. He said, “First of all, I will work hard on activities for ‘EYE ON YOU.’ In addition, I am planning contents to communicate with WENEE [fan club name] not only in Korea but all over the world. I am preparing not only music but new aspects in various areas so as the current situation improves I want to meet fans quickly.”

Lastly, he gave a message to WENEE, saying, “To WENEE, who always give me strength, I think I’m here because of you. I don’t know if it sounds formal, but all of my reasons are because of WENEE. I will grow as Wonho so I can repay you for your support and love!”
