BTS Becomes 1st Foreign Artist In History To Earn RIAJ Diamond Certification For Streaming In Japan; TWICE And ITZY Go Gold

BTS has just made history in Japan!

In 2020, the Recording Industry Association of Japan (RIAJ) implemented a new certification system for online streaming of songs, as an addition to its pre-existing certification systems for physical album shipments and digital download sales. According to the new system, songs are certified silver once they reach 30 million streams, gold at 50 million streams, platinum at 100 million streams, and diamond at 500 million streams.

On February 28, the RIAJ announced its latest batch of certifications (dated January 2022), and BTS’s smash hit “Dynamite” officially received a diamond certification in the streaming category after surpassing 500 million streams in less than two years.

Not only is BTS the first foreign artist ever to earn a diamond certification for streaming in Japan, but “Dynamite” is only the second song in RIAJ history to achieve the feat: the only other song that has been certified diamond by the RIAJ to date is Yoasobi’s “Yoru ni Kakeru,” which earned the honor last year.

On top of this historic achievement, BTS also received an official platinum certification for their song “Life Goes On,” which has now surpassed 100 million streams in Japan.

Additionally, BTS’s “Anpanman,” TWICE’s “Heart Shaker,” ITZY’s “Not Shy,” and Shaun’s “Way Back Home” were all officially certified gold after reaching 50 million streams each.

Congratulations to BTS, TWICE, ITZY, and Shaun!
