Weeekly's Jiyoon To Not Participate In Comeback Promotions Due To Health Issues
Weeekly member Jiyoon will be taking a hiatus from work due to her mental health.
On February 28, Weekly’s agency, IST Entertainment, released the following statement.
Hello, this is IST Entertainment.
This is an announcement for fans regarding Weeekly’s Shin Jiyoon’s state of health and future promotions.
After experiencing symptoms of anxiety during promotions, Jiyoon took a four-month break last summer and received psychological treatment. When it was judged she had recovered enough to return to work, she began participating in the group’s schedule again.
But during the recent preparations for the new album, Jiyoon again showed symptoms of major anxiety and strain. After deep discussions with Jiyoon herself, her family, and medical experts, we came to the decision that she is in a state of health where it will be difficult for her to carry out the work schedule as required and she should focus on her treatment and recovery instead.
Therefore, Weeekly will promote their new album as six members. Since this was a decision made with the artist’s health as our top priority, we ask for your understanding.
We apologize for causing fans concern with this sudden news just before the release of the new album. We ask that people refrain from malicious speculation or misunderstandings regarding the artist’s health.
The agency will do its best to ensure that Jiyoon recovers her health.
Thank you.
Jiyoon returned to group activities in December 2021 after taking a break due to recurring anxiety in August.
Weeekly is gearing up for the release of their first single album, “Play Game: AWAKE,” on March 7.
