3 Key Points To Check Out In Upcoming Thriller

The premiere of TVING’s original thriller “Monstrous” is almost here!

TVING’s original series “Monstrous” is about the people who are lured in by a curse from “that thing” that shouldn’t have come out into the world and tells the story of archaeologists who chase after monstrous cases that have never been heard of. As a village gets swept up in disaster with the discovery of a mysterious possessed statue of the Buddha, the confusion from the people who face the strange terror and the process of chasing after it will deliver great suspense to viewers.

Even before its premiere, “Monstrous” gained global recognition after being invited to the Cannes International Series Festival in the Korea Focus section.

With the series premiere quickly approaching, here are three key points that will allow you to watch the show even more enjoyably!

1. A very Korean supernatural thriller

Ever since “Monstrous” was announced, there was high anticipation for the series due to the involvement of director Yeon Sang Ho, who directed “Train to Busan” and “Peninsula.” Through “Monstrous,” Yeon Sang Ho will once again showcase his limitless imagination. While working on the drama “The Cursed,” Yeon Sang Ho dealt with traditional Korean shamans, ghosts, and legends, which will translate into creating a unique supernatural thriller with “Monstrous.”

Anticipation is rising for his collaboration with writer Ryu Yong Jae, who wrote “Pied Piper,” “My Holo Love,” and the upcoming Korean remake of “Money Heist.” The writer commented, “When you look at the project’s exterior, it takes the form of a thriller chasing after supernatural events, but when you look at what’s happening in the village, it looks like a disaster series. Honestly, it’s the happenings of the hurt and pain each individual experiences as a result of the curse, reappearing in the form of something extreme.”

“Monstrous” will also be directed by Jang Gun Jae, who won Best Screenplay at the 16th Busan Film Critics Award and Best Director and Best Screenplay at the 3rd Wildflower Film Awards with the film “A Midsummer’s Fantasia.”

2. Goo Kyo Hwan and Shin Hyun Bin’s flawless chemistry

Due to their charms and solid acting, viewers are well-aware that a collaboration between Goo Kyo Hwan and Shin Hyun Bin must be nothing short of amazing.

Goo Kyo Hwan transforms into the eccentric archaeologist Jung Ki Hoon who researches bizarre supernatural phenomena. In the midst of running the occult YouTube channel titled “Monthly Ghost Stories,” he faces a strange and unbelievable phenomenon while investigating the Buddhist statue found in Jinyang County.

Shin Hyun Bin stars as his wife and the genius pattern cryptanalyst Lee Soo Jin who ends up having to face a terrible disaster. After losing her only daughter, Lee Soo Jin puts down everything to return to Jinyang County where she begins to experience inexplicable events. Stay tuned to see how these two will be able to protect one another in this hell-like situation.

3. The diverse group of people in the village

The story of “Monstrous” begins when a possessed statue, that’s been sealed for a very long time, awakens to disrupt a peaceful village. Once the village gets thrown into chaos, every individual showcases their different approaches to tackling the disaster.

Kim Ji Young stars as police chief Han Suk Hee, while Park Ho San plays Kwon Jong Soo, Jinyang County’s supervisor. The town’s trouble maker Kwon Yong Joo will be played by Kwak Dong Yeon and Nam Da Reum portrays Han Do Kyung, who does not lose his determination while everyone around him struggles to think straight.
