Kim Min Jae And Kim Hyang Gi's Upcoming Historical Drama Confirms Cast + Premiere Date

tvN’s new drama starring Kim Min Jae, Kim Hyang Gi, and Kim Sang Kyung has confirmed its cast and premiere date!

Based off a novel of the same name, tvN’s upcoming historical drama “Poong, The Joseon Psychiatrist” depicts the story of Yoo Se Poong (Kim Min Jae), a well-known internal medicine doctor who gets expelled from the royal court after being caught up in a conspiracy. Afterwards, he meets Seo Eun Woo (Kim Hyang Gi) and Gye Ji Han (Kim Sang Kyung) in the strange and beautiful Gyesu village and works to become a true doctor who heals the heart.

Kim Min Jae will star as the warm-hearted, genius acupuncturist Yoo Se Poong. The handsome and talented man earns a job at the royal palace, but gets caught up in an unexpected incident and loses his great ability as an acupuncturist.

Kim Hyang Gi stars as the unexpected widow Seo Eun Woo who infers the stories of those who are heartbroken. As the daughter of a noble family, Seo Eun Woo is keen, observant, and possesses a great amount of empathy. Seo Eun Woo feels wronged by her sudden marriage, and in the midst of being in danger of involuntarily becoming a wife who stays virtuous to her deceased husband, she meets Yoo Se Poong and faces dramatic changes.

Kim Sang Kyung portrays Gye Ji Han, a money-hungry and eccentric doctor who is also Yoo Se Poong’s teacher. At first glance, Gye Ji Han is a cold, materialistic snob who only cares about money, but deep down, he is actually very warm and sincere. Eventually, he leads Yoo Se Poong to become a true doctor that heals the heart.

In addition to the three leads, “Poong, The Joseon Psychiatrist” boasts an impressive and exciting full cast lineup. Ahn Chang Hwan will portray servant Man Bok, who only has eyes for Yoo Se Poong. Yoo Sung Joo plays Jo Tae Hak, an expert schemer who does anything it takes to achieve his goals. Jung Won Chang portrays Jo Tae Hak’s adopted son Jo Sin Woo, an inspector who strictly follows all the rules.

Lee Seo Hwan will play Shin Gwi Soo, the ambitious doctor of the king. Jeon Gook Hyang will portray a grandma with dementia, who mistakes Yoo Se Poong for her son. Yeon Bo Ra plays Nam Hae Daek, an excellent cook who looks after the Gyesu village hospital. Kim Soo Ahn portrays Gye Ji Han’s daughter Ib Boon who is unaffected by his mistreatment of her, while Han Chang Min plays Jang Goon, who has perfect memory and is in charge of the hospital’s medicine warehouse.

The production team shared, “The biggest key point [of the drama] is the actors’ synergy that will complete the unique universe of ‘Poong, The Joseon Psychiatrist.’ The actions of the doctors healing not only the body and heart, but also the cause, will be drawn out in a fun and exciting way.”

“Poong, The Joseon Psychiatrist” will premiere on August 1 and be produced over multiple seasons.
