Kakao Entertaiment To Launch Virtual Girl Group Survival Program

Kakao Entertainment is preparing a new girl group survival program!

On August 19, Kakao Entertainment announced that they are currently planning “Virtual Idol Project 30 (VIP 30)” (working title), a virtual idol survival program.

“VIP 30” is a virtual idol survival show where 30 K-pop girl group members will compete to debut in a virtual world. The contestants will hide their names, faces, and real world identities and compete as a new virtual character. Those chosen for the final lineup will debut as a virtual idol girl group and earn the opportunity to release new music.

As this is the first virtual girl group survival program in Korea, it’s said that the competition among contestants is already tight. The 30 competitors will range from popular idol group members, former idols who have chosen different career paths, and idols looking for a second chance. Through their virtual characters, these members will build their stories, communicate with fans, and give extravagant performances.

Another special aspect is that the members’ movements and facial expressions can be caught in real time and displayed live through their virtual characters using VR and motion capture. Even though it’s a virtual world, viewers will be able to see contestants’ vivid performances as well as each member’s individual personality and talent. In addition to the first-ever virtual K-pop group performance with 30 people, their new music will captivate audience members’ ears and eyes.

The show will be a KakaoTV original and co-produced by chief producers (CPs) Jo Wook Hyung (“Queendom,” “Road to Kingdom”) and Park Jin Kyung (“My Little Television“), as well as producing directors (PDs) Son Soo Jung and Jo Joo Yeon.
