Mnet Issues Apology For

The production team of “Street Man Fighter” has issued an apology for comments made during the program’s press conference.

On August 23, “Street Man Fighter” held a press conference where chief producer (CP) Kwon Young Chan compared the program to the original female version “Street Woman Fighter.” He commented, “If there was jealousy and greed in the survival [program] for female dancers, I think the male dancers showed a lot of loyalty and pride.”

Viewers have since expressed their discomfort with the sexist comment and Mnet released the following statement in response:

Hello, this is Mnet.

We apologize to everyone who felt uncomfortable by the inappropriate comment made by a producer at Mnet’s ‘Street Man Fighter’ press conference.

The comment made by the producer was a comment that does not match Mnet’s core value of ‘novelty that breaks prejudice’ or our dance program’s production purpose of ‘growth through competition and solidarity.’ Mnet feels a deep sense of responsibility regarding this generalized and incorrect comment.

Mnet’s ‘Street Woman Fighter’ and ‘Street Man Fighter’ are programs produced to convey joy through dance with professional dancers’ competition and solidarity, and highlight them while focusing on the dancers’ stories.

We promise to take various follow-up measures to ensure this doesn’t happen again, so that we do not let down those who love our program. In the future, we will think and work harder. Once again, we sincerely apologize.

“Street Man Fighter” premiered on August 23 and will air every Tuesday at 10:20 p.m. KST.
