Supreme Court Upholds 1 Year Prison Sentence For Rapper NO:EL

The son of politician Jang Je Won and former “High School Rapper” contestant NO:EL has been sentenced to one year in prison.

On October 14, the third division of the Supreme Court upheld a one-year prison sentence for NO:EL, who was charged with refusing to take a breathalyzer and assaulting a police officer.

Last year on September 18 around 10:30 p.m. KST, NO:EL had been driving a Mercedes Benz in the Banpo of the Seocho District in Seoul when he had a collision. When a police officer arrived on the scene to check his blood alcohol level and his license, he refused to comply and struck them on the head.

At the first and second trials, NO:EL was found guilty on most charges and was sentenced to one year in prison. Although he was acquitted on the charge of inflicting an injury on the police officer as the extent of injuries was minor, NO:EL appealed against the ruling, and the case went to the Supreme Court. As the original verdict was confirmed in the appeals court, he was eventually sentenced to imprisonment.

Previously in 2020, NO:EL was sentenced to one year and six months in prison and two years of probation under charges of driving under the influence and attempting to switch drivers. While on probation, he committed a crime of the same kind and was arrested on October 12, 2021 after an arrest warrant was issued. NO:EL was under detention while the trial was ongoing and was released at the end of last month after the detention was revoked. As the original sentence of one year in prison was confirmed, NO:EL was released from prison on October 9 after having been detained for a year since his arrest.
