Seo Ji Hye Tries To Mend Her And Seol Jung Hwan's Souring Relationship With A Romantic Dinner In Upcoming Drama

“Red Balloon” (literal translation) has shared photos of Seo Ji Hye and Seol Jung Hwan’s lukewarm dinner date.

Starring Seo Ji Hye, Lee Sung JaeHong Soo Hyun, and Lee Sang Woo, TV Chosun’s new miniseries “Red Balloon” is a thrilling yet passionate story about the sense of deprivation we all feel when comparing ourselves to others, the thirst of jealous ambition, and our struggles to quench that thirst.

Seo Ji Hye stars as Jo Eun Kang, who dreams of becoming a teacher, but instead works as a tutor after consistently failing her employment exams. While Jo Eun Kang appears quiet and calm on the outside, she harbors a fiery personality in her heart. Seol Jung Hwan plays her boyfriend Kwon Tae Gi, who is four years younger than her.

Over the course of their four-year relationship, Jo Eun Kang has supported Kwon Tae Gi as he prepared to take his civil service exam while she patiently awaited their engagement. However, Kwon Tae Gi has taken her kindness and patience for granted and become snobby, causing their relationship to go sour.

The new stills capture the icy tension between Jo Eun Kang and Kwon Tae Gi as they share a meal. After preparing the food, Jo Eun Kang goes the extra mile by decorating Kwon Tae Gi’s house with flowers, wine, and balloons. When he returns home, she welcomes him with a bright smile, but Kwon Tae Gi responds with a dissatisfied look.

Not wanting to add to the tension, Jo Eun Kang tries to be cheerful and share friendly conversation, which only ends with Kwon Tae Gi exploding with anger, which instantly makes Jo Eun Kang freeze.

Before filming, Seo Ji Hye and Seol Jung Hwan thought deeply in order to perfectly capture the complicated emotions of this scene. The duo rehearsed their lines numerous times, making sure they were on the same page and able to optimize their chemistry. Even during takes where only one of them was visible, both actors remained in character, which served to improve the quality of the scene.

The production team commented, “Seo Ji Hye and Seol Jung Hwan properly drew out the amplification of bursting emotions in a delicate moment that leads to sharp conflict. To find out what the situation is that causes sudden change to the relationship between Kwon Tae Gi and Jo Eun Kang, who has supported her boyfriend for four years while waiting for him to pass his civil service exam, please check out ‘Red Balloon.'”

TV Chosun’s “Red Balloon” will premiere on December 17 at 9:10 p.m. KST.
