Seo Ji Hye, Lee Sang Woo, And More Talk About Charms Of Their Upcoming Drama

The cast and director of “Red Balloon” have shared their aspirations ahead of the drama’s premiere on December 17!

On December 15, TV Chosun’s new weekend drama “Red Balloon” held an online press conference attended by director Jin Hyung Wook along with actors Seo Ji Hye, Lee Sung Jae, Hong Soo Hyun, Lee Sang Woo, and Jung Yoo Min.

“Red Balloon” is a thrilling yet passionate story about the sense of deprivation we all feel when comparing ourselves to others, the thirst of jealous ambition, and our struggles to quench that thirst. Seo Ji Hye stars as Jo Eun Kang, who dreams of becoming a teacher but instead works as a tutor after consistently failing her employment exams. Lee Sang Woo plays Han Ba Da’s (Hong Soo Hyun’s) husband Go Cha Won, who is a dermatologist.

At the press conference, Seo Ji Hye explained why she chose this project by saying, “Moon Young Nam is a great television screenwriter. This was a big factor for me [in choosing this project]. Also, I think that Jo Eun Kang is an unusual character. It was appealing to me that she is a character who can reveal the essence of human beings and desires.”

Hong Soo Hyun who stars as Han Ba Da, a jewelry designer with a cheerful personality, remarked, “When I first read the script, it felt lively as if I was watching a drama even though it was written text. Even after I finished reading the script, I kept thinking about Han Ba Da and was very excited thinking about how I am going to act.” The actress also shared that as her character’s occupation is a jewelry designer, she cut her hair short in order to look sophisticated and stylish.

Lee Sang Woo who plays the husband of Han Ba Da and dermatologist Go Cha Won reunited with writer Moon Young Nam after 15 years since “First Wives’ Club” in 2007. He shared, “I was too inexperienced when I was filming for ‘First Wives’ Club.’ I have felt so apologetic about that and worked hard on other dramas for 15 years while waiting for her to call me again. She really did call me through this project, so I wanted to do well this time.”

When asked about the charms of the drama, director Jin Hyung Wook replied, “Once you start watching it, you can’t stop. There may be people who haven’t watched it at all, but I don’t think there will be anyone who stops watching it after they start. I really hope viewers will give it a try. After that, it will be a feast full of addictive stories and characters that make you curious about what happens next.”

“Red Balloon” premieres on December 17 at 9:10 p.m. KST.
