Kim Sae Ron To Face Trial After Indictment In DUI Accident

Actress Kim Sae Ron will face a trial after driving under the influence and crashing her vehicle into multiple objects along the road.

According to legal circles on December 19, the Seoul Central District Prosecutors’ Office Criminal Division 5 (chief prosecutor Choi Woo Young) indicted Kim Sae Ron without detention on December 16 on charges of violating the Road Traffic Act (drunk driving and not taking action after an accident). A passenger in their 20s also in the vehicle with Kim Sae Ron at the time is also reported to have been handed over to a trial without detention under suspicions of aiding and abetting drunk driving.

Kim Sae Ron is under suspicion of causing damage while driving under the influence, hitting multiple trees and guardrails in the Cheongdam neighborhood in Gangnam District on May 15 at around 8 a.m. KST. The accident also broke a transformer, cutting off the electricity supply for 57 nearby businesses, which was restored within about three hours.

At the time of the accident, Kim Sae Ron’s blood alcohol level was estimated to be 0.2 percent, far surpassing the minimum of 0.08 percent required to have her license revoked. In addition, Kim Sae Ron refused to have her blood alcohol level measured, so the police went to the National Institute of Scientific Investigation to request a blood collection test.

Following the incident, Kim Sae Ron took to social media to post a handwritten letter in apology, writing, “I have no excuses for this unfortunate incident, and I feel so ashamed and disappointed in myself for the mistake I made.” The police forwarded Kim Sae Ron to the prosecution on June 28, with the prosecution deciding on their course of action just six months later.

Due to the incident, Kim Sae Ron stepped down from her role in the drama “Trolley.” Earlier this month, she also parted ways with her agency GOLDMEDALIST.
