Prosecution Demands 5-Year Prison Sentence For Producer Don Spike On Drug Charges
The prosecution has demanded a five-year prison sentence for producer and singer Don Spike.
On the morning of December 20, the Seoul Northern District Court sought five years in prison in the final trial for Don Spike, who was charged with violating the Act on Aggravated Punishment for Specific Crimes. They also demanded 200 hours of rehabilitation treatment and an order to collect about 39.85 million won (approximately $30,900).
According to the prosecution, Don Spike is suspected of using drugs a total of 14 times, including buying 45 million won (approximately $34,900) worth of methamphetamine over nine occasions from December of last year and administering methamphetamine several times with a female receptionist. He is also charged with distributing methamphetamine and ecstasy to others over seven occasions and possessing 20 grams of methamphetamine.
Don Spike, who appeared at court on Tuesday, pleaded for leniency by saying, “I’m truly sorry. I will never reoffend.” Don Spike previously admitted to all charges in the first trial.
Earlier in September, Don Spike was arrested at a hotel in Gangnam district in Seoul on the charges of violating the Drugs Control Act. At the time of arrest, Don Spike was carrying 30 grams of methamphetamine, which is about 1000 servings, estimated to be worth 100 million won (approximately $69,300). Don Spike tested positive for drugs in a simple reagent test, and along with him, the owner of the adult entertainment shop, who was suspected of taking drugs, was arrested.
It was revealed that Don Spike has already been tried three times in the past for smoking marijuana but avoided jail time. Earlier in August 2010, he was sentenced to a fine of five million won (approximately $3,900) in an appeals court for the charges of using marijuana, and in October of the same year, he was sentenced to one year in prison suspended for two years of probation for another drug charge.
Don Spike’s sentencing will take place on January 9 at 10 a.m. KST.
