8+ New K-Dramas To Tune In To In July

July has arrived, and summer is now in full swing! Cool down a bit indoors with a refreshing beverage and a new K-drama this month.

Here are dramas premiering in July to keep an eye out for:

“Shadow Detective 2”

Cast: Lee Sung Min, Kyung Soo Jin, Lee Hak Joo, Jung Jin Young, Kim Shin Rok, Joo Jin Mo, Kim Hong Fa, Jung Hae Kyun, Kim Min Jae, Choi Byung Mo, etc.

Premiere Date: July 5

“Shadow Detective” is a crime thriller that first aired in October 2022 and depicts the story of Kim Taek Rok (Lee Sung Min), a veteran homicide detective who suddenly starts getting calls from someone who calls himself an old friend. The caller frames him for murder and starts to blackmail him. The new second season will follow the counter-attack of Kim Taek Rok as he returns to hunt down his blackmailer “friend.”

“O’PENing 2023”

“O’PENing” is tvN’s collection of short dramas written by new screenwriters selected through the O’PEN Storyteller Contest. “O’PENing 2023” will feature seven diverse projects, with three of them airing in July.

“Summer, Love Machine, Blues” is a road movie about Na Yi Soo (Go Soo), who runs an adult shop, and Yeo Deu Rim (Arin), who is tutored by him in order to enter a prestigious university. “A Walk” tells the story of Cha Soon Jae (Lee Soon Jae), who takes care of his wife’s dog following her passing. “Summer Cold” is about Cha In Joo (Uhm Ji Won), who lives in complete darkness until she meets Kang Jin Do (Park Ji Hwan), a single father with a positive outlook on life.

Not Others

Cast: Jeon Hye Jin, Sooyoung (Girls’ Generation), Ahn Jae Wook, Park Sung Hoon, Kim Hye Eun, Kim Sang Ho, Kim Young Ok, Yang Hee Kyung, Lee Yong Yi, Kim Dong Soo, etc.

Premiere Date: July 17

Based on a popular webtoon, “Not Others” is a comedy drama that tells the delightful cohabitation story of a clumsy mother and her coolheaded daughter. Jeon Hye Jin plays Eun Mi, a bubbly physical therapist and single mother with a 29-year-old daughter. Sooyoung is Eun Mi’s daughter Jin Hee, a police station patrol team leader who urgently needs to crack down on her mother rather than on her cases.

“Jun & Jun” is a romantic comedy BL drama about Lee Jun (Yang Jun Mo), a former idol who is now an intern at a cosmetic company, who reunites with Choi Jun (Ki Hyun Woo), a manager at the company who he knows from the past. Now coworkers, romantic sparks begin to fly between the two.

“Longing for You” is a mystery crime series following the story of Woojin Police Station detective Oh Jin Sung (Na In Woo) who is working to avenge his younger brother. Oh Jin Sung gets transferred to the Special Investigation team for a serial murder case and embarks on an investigation with prosecutors Ko Young Joo (Kim Ji Eun) and Cha Young Woon (Kwon Yool).

“D.P. 2”

Based on a webtoon, “D.P.” (stands for Deserter Pursuit) is a series about a special military squad sent to chase down deserters. Season 2 features the return of the main leads including Jung Hae In and Goo Kyo Hwan as the D.P. unit duo An Jun Ho and Han Ho Yeol, Kim Sung Kyun as Sergeant Park Beom Gu, and Son Suk Ku as Lieutenant Lim Ji Seop. Actors Ji Jin Hee, Kim Ji Hyun, and Choi Hyun Wook also star in the new season.

“The Uncanny Counter 2”

“The Uncanny Counter” is a superhero drama starring Jo Byeong Gyu, Kim Sejeong, Yoo Joon Sang, and Yeom Hye Ran as demon hunters with supernatural powers. Two and a half years after the first season’s successful run, the drama returns with its long-awaited second season with new evils including Pil Gwang (Kang Ki Young), Gelly (Kim Hieora), and Wing (Kim Hyun Wook).

My Lovely Liar

“My Lovely Liar” is a mystery romance drama about a woman who can hear lies and a genius music producer who is hiding his identity. Kim So Hyun stars as Mok Sol Hee, whose supernatural ability to detect lies has made her lose faith in other people. However, the cynical Mok Sol Hee becomes intrigued by her suspicious next-door neighbor Kim Do Ha (Hwang Minhyun), a successful music producer hiding his face from the world.
