Hwang Jung Eum Dishes On Her Upcoming Drama, Working With "The Penthouse" Writer, And More

Hwang Jung Eum has talked about her upcoming SBS drama “The Escape of the Seven”!

Starring Uhm Ki Joon, Hwang Jung Eum, Lee Joon, Lee Yoo Bi, Shin Eun Kyung, Yoon Jong Hoon, Jo Yoon Hee, and Jo Jae Yoon, “The Escape of the Seven” follows the story of seven characters involved in the disappearance of a young girl, who was tangled in a complicated web of lies and ambition. “The Escape of the Seven” is the third joint project by scriptwriter Kim Soon Ok and director Joo Dong Min who previously worked together on “The Last Empress” and the hit “The Penthouse” series.

Hwang Jung Eum will play the role of the charismatic Geum Ra Hee, a competent and daring head of a drama production company. Geum Ra Hee values money and success as the most important things in life and will do anything to get what she wants.

Revealing why she chose to star in the drama, Hwang Jung Eum shared, “The writer asked if I wanted to play the villain. I decided to appear in it because I really wanted to star in the writer’s project,” adding, “There was no reason why I wouldn’t want to be a part of a story with compelling characters and an interesting storyline.”

On working with Kim Soon Ok, she commented, “Kim Soon Ok is someone who can create something out of nothing. It was an honor and a pleasure to work with her.” She continued, “I trusted and followed the writer and director who have worked together on previous productions.I think it is a powerful drama created by the tremendous passion and sweat of the production team.”

Regarding her character Geum Ra Hee, Hwang Jung Eum shared, “She’s very confident and bold and has a very strong entrepreneurial spirit. So I thought I had to look tough.”

She continued, “There are many aspects that are different from the roles I have played before. I’ve never played such a villainous character before, so I put in a lot of effort in advance, analyzing and focusing on the script as well as shaping my behavior, tone of voice, and gestures to exude charisma.”
