Though initially hesitant about their age gap, it does not take Jin Ah long to succumb to the charms of the tender Joon Hee. A passionate romance unfolds between the two, but many factors threaten to destroy the relationship. Age, family oppositions, and the couple’s many unresolved issues threaten to wreak havoc. Will these two find a happily ever after?

“Alone in Love”

A golden oldie, “Alone in Love” is the story of a divorced couple. Yoo Eun Ho (Son Ye Jin) is a fitness instructor, while Lee Dong Jin (Kam Woo Sung) is a book shop owner. Despite being separated, and with potential love interests around, the two continue to meet each other. As they meet in their favorite cafe, one sees them have their internal monologues as they bicker and interfere in each other’s lives.

It’s a beautifully written drama which tackles divorce sensitively. Humor and irony run through their interactions, making you laugh and tear up. Son Ye Jin and Kam Woo Sung are endearing in the main roles, and they will make you laugh and cry. The bonus is that the show has a beautiful soundtrack with soft instrumentals as well as bubbly love songs.

Personal Taste

Things have been tough for Park Gae In (Son Ye Jin). Her boyfriend has called it quits, and she is about to lose her job. She meets Jeon Jin Ho (Lee Min Ho), an architect who she erroneously assumes is gay. He offers to move in to her home as a potential roommate, which would help salvage her declining finances. The three have been besties since high school. On the verge of turning 40, they have been confidantes, counselors, and everything in between to each other. But when Chan Young falls grievously ill, the other two set out to fulfill her wishes and make the most of their time together.

Truly sisters before misters, this one is best watched with your girl gang. This show is full of moving performances as these three navigate life, love, and heartbreak. Keep those tissues handy—you will need them!

“The Negotiation”

Ha Chae Yoon (Son Ye Jin) is a hostage negotiator who begins a one-on-one negotiation with Min Tae Gyu (Hyun Bin), a criminal who is behind a huge hostage situation in Thailand. Chae Yoon is a driven woman who is on top of her game as well as forging her path in a profession which is driven by men.

“The Negotiation” is a taut psychological thriller, and the suspense will keep you riveted. The battle of wits between Chae Yoon and Tae Gyu is further accentuated by the actors’ performances. As the lines between good and bad blur, it’s tough to take sides in this film. Many fans swear this film was the start of the relationship which unfolded between the lead pair, and it is hard not to miss how they seem to be in sync even while being on opposing sides.

“The Last Princess”

This is the true rending story of Yi Deok Hye, the last royal member of Korea’s Joseon Dynasty, who spent her entire life in captivity and exile in Japan. Son Ye Jin is Princess Deok Hye, who is desperate to return home to Korea, but her efforts are met with futility. The film explores her childhood, the subsequent exile, and the fight back to return home. Despite intrigue and betrayals around her, she is focused on her mission.

A compelling plot, the film scores for its emotive performance by Son Ye Jin. The actor is top-notch in the melodrama and brings forth the anguish and pathos of a determined princess seeking the ever after she was so denied.
