4 Memorable Lines From

JTBC’s Wednesday-Thursday drama “Frankly Speaking” has shared the most memorable lines from its previous episodes!

“Frankly Speaking” is a romantic comedy starring Go Kyung Pyo as Song Ki Baek, a rising news anchor whose life takes a (literally) shocking turn when he is electrocuted in an accident, leading him to develop a strange condition that prevents him from lying. Kang Han Na stars as On Woo Ju, a passionate variety show writer who is willing to do anything to make a program entertaining, while Joo Jong Hyuk plays her ex-boyfriend Kim Jung Heon, a popular trot singer.

As the series nears its conclusion, viewers might have noticed that the drama comes with a plethora of memorable lines as it explores the ups and downs of the characters’ lives. Here are four standout lines that resonated with both the characters and viewers.

1. “If I fall, I can just get back up.”

After the electrocution incident, Ki Baek became a truth-teller who couldn’t lie at all, causing his image to plummet and leading to a crisis in his social life that ultimately forced him to resign from the company. In his despair, a boy named Jung Gu Won (Park Jae Joon) appeared and asked Ki Baek to teach him how to ride a bike. After a brief lesson from Ki Baek, Gu Won told him to take his hands off the bike. Although Ki Baek worried that the boy might fall, Gu Won didn’t seem to care and said, “If I fall, I can just get back up.” This line comforted Ki Baek, who was overwhelmed by fear, and gave him the courage to overcome the past and move toward the future.

2. “I can only turn it on again after turning it off first.”

While Ki Baek faced deep sorrow with no money, home, or useful experiences, Woo Ju encountered similar difficulties, being labeled a “variety show writer who lost her touch.” One day, a power outage occurred across the whole neighborhood, creating complete darkness that swept over them. In this seeming despair, Ki Baek remembered the saying, “I can only turn it on again after turning it off first.” This gave him the confidence to believe that their lives could shine brightly again, just as the neighborhood lights came back on.

3. “It’s fine if you want to say you’re okay, and it’s fine if you want to say you’re not okay.”

Even when Woo Ju faced challenges, she never showed it outwardly and always said, “I’m okay.” This made Ki Baek feel sorry for her because he, too, bottled up his feelings and pretended nothing was wrong so as to maintain a favorable reputation. When Ki Baek said to Woo Ju, “It’s fine if you want to say you’re okay, and it’s fine if you want to say you’re not okay,” Woo Ju found comfort and finally admitted, “I’m not okay at all.” Ki Baek’s words also resonated with the viewers who were hiding their feelings and struggling to survive in this harsh world.

4. “A bolt from the blue has made me strong. I am no longer afraid of unexpected storms.”

Working as a freelancer, Ki Baek decided to appear on the program “I’m Living in the Mountain” to help his senior Yoon Ji Hoo (Go Kyu Pil). While filming, Ki Baek, Ji Hoo, PN (Jang Won Hyuk), and the “nature man” (Lee Seok), all of whom went through thunderstorm-like crises in their lives, gathered in one place. Ji Hoo turned to freelancing to cover his daughter’s medical expenses, PN transitioned into a trot singer after being embroiled in a personality controversy, and the “nature man” moved to the mountain after his business failed. Despite their situations, they weathered the challenges quite well. Ki Baek started to win people’s favor thanks to his honesty, which initially seemed to work against him. Just like the inscription, “A bolt from the blue has made me strong. I am no longer afraid of unexpected storms,” carved in wood by the “nature man,” they emerged stronger from the past hardships and were no longer afraid of the unknown storms ahead.

“Frankly Speaking” airs every Wednesday and Thursday at 8:50 p.m. KST.
