TWICE, aespa, NewJeans, SEVENTEEN, And BIGBANG Earn RIAJ Platinum And Gold Certifications For Streaming In Japan

The Recording Industry Association of Japan (RIAJ) has announced its latest batch of official certifications!

In 2020, the RIAJ implemented a new certification system for online streaming of songs, as an addition to its pre-existing certification systems for physical album shipments and digital download sales. According to the new system, songs are certified silver once they reach 30 million streams, gold at 50 million streams, and platinum at 100 million streams.

This month, TWICE earned a total of three different certifications for streaming. Their 2017 Korean hit “LIKEY” was certified platinum for surpassing 100 million streams in Japan, while their 2018 remake of “I WANT YOU BACK” was certified gold for surpassing 50 million streams. TWICE’s unit MISAMO also earned a gold certification for their Japanese single “NEW LOOK.”

aespa’s latest Korean hit “Whiplash,” NewJeans’ Japanese song “Supernatural,” SEVENTEEN’s 2020 Japanese song “Fallin’ Flower,” and BIGBANG’s 2013 Japanese single “Koe o Kikasete” all similarly earned official gold certifications after surpassing 50 million streams each in Japan.

Congratulations to all of the artists!
