Lee Byung Hun, Kim Kang Hoon, Go Chang Suk, And More Gear Up For The Ultimate Go Challenge In New "The Match" Posters
Upcoming film “The Match” has unveiled new character posters, highlighting key players in the Go world!
Directed by Kim Hyung Joo of “The Sheriff in Town,” “The Match” tells the story of the rivalry between legendary Go player Cho Hun Hyun (Lee Byung Hun) and his protégé Lee Chang Ho (Yoo Ah In). After losing to his student, Cho Hun Hyun embarks on a quest to reclaim his title.
In the first poster, Cho Hun Hyun is seen with his hands clasped in front of his mouth, an expression of anguish as he contemplates the game. The caption reads, “The moment you lose your composure, Go is over right there,” emphasizing the intense mental and emotional stakes of the game.
Additional posters introduce fellow Go professionals Cheon Seung Pil (Go Chang Suk) and Lee Yong Gak (Hyun Bong Sik). Their captions reflect the gravity of the historic confrontation between the mentor and the student: “A challenge between mentor and student. This is a historic event that will be remembered in the history of our Go world,” and, “Cho Hun Hyun has taken in a tiger cub,” respectively. These characters, like the audience, are caught up in the tension of the pivotal match between the two main characters.
In a poster featuring Cho Hun Hyun’s wife Jung Mi Hwa (Moon Jung Hee), her line reads, “Don’t be too harsh, try to coax and calm him down. He’s just a kid.” This highlights her understanding of the delicate relationship between the two as well as the complex emotions that have shaped her perspective over time.
Meanwhile, young Lee Chang Ho (Kim Kang Hoon) is depicted with a curious expression, capturing the moment when the student first met the mentor. His caption, “It is said that you’re the best at Go. You’re the best in the country, right?” reveals his bold, cheeky personality and sets the tone for the young player’s determination and confidence.
Lastly, Cho Hun Hyun’s longtime rival Nam Gi Chul (Jo Woo Jin) is shown with furrowed brows. His caption reads, “It’s about enduring and winning. If you keep persevering, an opportunity will come eventually,” raising curiosity about what role he will play both in the game and in the lives of the two challengers.
“The Match” is set to hit theaters on March 26.
