Son Suk Ku And Kim Hye Ja Face A Conundrum When They Reunite In Heaven In "Heavenly Ever After"
JTBC has shared a new glimpse of Son Suk Ku and Kim Hye Ja’s dynamic in “Heavenly Ever After”!
“Heavenly Ever After” is an upcoming transcendent romance starring Kim Hye Ja as Lee Hae Sook, a woman who reunites with her husband in heaven after death. Unlike the other residents of heaven—including her husband Go Nak Joon (Son Suk Ku), who has chosen to return to the 30-something version of himself—Lee Hae Sook makes the unusual choice to keep her 80-year-old appearance.
Upon arriving in heaven, residents are asked to choose an age for their physical appearance. Without knowing what her husband (who passed away before her) chose, Hae Sook recalls that Nak Joon told her while they were still alive, “You’re the prettiest right now.” As a result, she decides to choose the age of 80.
However, once she reunites with Nak Joon, she is horrified to find that he has unexpectedly gone back to his thirties. Feeling betrayed and resentful, Hae Sook blames Nak Joon for their awkward predicament, which makes her so insecure and unhappy that she hardly feels like she’s in heaven. Nak Joon, on the other hand, has been waiting for Hae Sook for so long that he is merely ecstatic at being able to see her again.
In newly released stills from the upcoming drama, a smiling Nak Joon tries to cheer up Hae Sook, who is down in the dumps because of the mismatch between their physical ages. But considering that only 0.5 percent of married couples choose to live together again in heaven, the fact that Nak Joon and Hae Sook have reunited is in and of itself proof that they are still very much in love.
With Nak Joon happily guiding Hae Sook around heaven and warmly encouraging her, it remains to be seen if she will be able to successfully adapt to her new environment.
Director Kim Suk Yoon commented, “In order for the premise of [Kim Hye Ja and Son Suk Ku] being a married couple to be convincing, I asked Kim Hye Ja to focus on portraying a wife who truly loves her husband. I also engaged in a lot of discussions with Son Suk Ku so that he wouldn’t mix up the considerate way his character treats his beloved wife in the story with the considerate way he was treating [Kim Hye Ja] in real life as a veteran actress.”
“Although there was a bit of awkwardness during the first rehearsal, once filming began, their chemistry naturally came to life even without my direction,” he continued. “Thanks to the two actors’ passionate performances, they created an emotional depiction of a loving married couple.”
