“BOYS II PLANET” Begins Filming + Changes Format To Debut A Single Group Instead Of Two
Mnet’s upcoming boy group survival show “BOYS II PLANET” has changed its format—shifting from a two-team debut system to a single, unified debut group.
On May 23, Mnet announced that filming for the show’s first episode had successfully wrapped and shared, “There has been a change in the program format.”
Originally, “BOYS II PLANET” was structured around two separate audition programs—”BOYS II PLANET K” and “BOYS II PLANET C”—each set to debut its own group. However, to heighten the drama and narrative immersion, Mnet has decided to merge the two narratives into one, ultimately leading to the debut of a single global K-pop boy group.
Accordingly, in the early episodes, the show will continue to highlight the distinct stories and personalities of the global contestants under the banners of “BOYS II PLANET K” and “BOYS II PLANET C.” As the competition progresses, the narratives will converge into one, following the trainees’ collective journey toward debut as one group.
A representative from the show stated, “We thoroughly explained the changes to the participants and their agencies and received their understanding. We will do our best to highlight the contestants’ growth and charm while delivering high-quality content.”
Additionally, Mnet revealed that they are actively exploring ways for “BOYS II PLANET K” and “BOYS II PLANET C” contestants to pursue future musical activities beyond the show by collaborating with global partners, including those in Greater China.
“BOYS II PLANET K” will premiere on July 17, and “BOYS II PLANET C” will premiere on July 18.
