Namkoong Min Reveals Why He Chose To Star In "Our Movie," Insights Into His Character, And More

Namkoong Min has shared his thoughts on his upcoming drama “Our Movie”!

“Our Movie” will tell the poignant love story of Lee Je Ha (Namkoong Min), a film director struggling with an uncertain future, and Lee Da Eum (Jeon Yeo Been), an aspiring actress who is suffering from a terminal illness.

Namkoong Min, who is known for bringing each of his characters to life in memorable ways, remarked, “Director Lee Jung Heum, whom I worked with eight years ago, is leading this project. After we met and discussed how he planned to approach filming and express the emotions of the story, I took a few days to think it over. Then the thought occurred to me that I’d be embarrassed as an actor if I turned it down. Because the script was written with such sincerity.”

In “Our Movie,” Namkoong Min takes on the role of Lee Je Ha, a once-celebrated genius film director who is unable to release new work, haunted by the belief that his past success was a lie. “On the surface, he seems like a successful director, but inside, he’s filled with a deep emptiness and emotional wounds,” explained the actor. “If I had to describe the character in a few words or a specific genre, I’d say ‘quiet love’ or ‘a calm, yet deeply emotional romance drama.'”

He added, “[Lee Je Ha] is someone who shows his feelings through actions rather than words. He may be awkward at expressing himself, but his sincerity runs deeper than anyone’s. Watching him slowly break down and change—though only in front of Lee Da Eum—is truly moving.”

Namkoong Min shared his approach to playing the character, who differs somewhat from those he’s played before. “Lee Je Ha expresses himself more through his eyes and silence than through words,” he said. “On the outside, he’s calm and quiet, but inside, he’s constantly battling with himself. I paid close attention to conveying those unspoken emotions through my performance.”

The actor also expressed a deep connection to the role, sharing, “I played Je Ha with the hope that even without raising his voice, the quiet ripple of his emotions would still reach viewers. That made the role more difficult, but also made me feel more attached to it.” His words highlight the care and effort he put into bringing the character to life, raising anticipation for his portrayal.

Namkoong Min, who earned acclaim for his roles in SBS dramas “Stove League” and “One Dollar Lawyer,” admitted to feeling pressure with this new role. “Both Baek Seung Soo and Cheon Ji Hoon were beloved characters, so I worried a lot about whether I’d be able to deliver the same emotional depth and connection to viewers this time,” he said. “Whether this becomes another defining role in my career is up to the audience, but I really poured all my emotions into my performance. I think it’s something people can look forward to.”
