Yoon Hyun Soo, Lee Jung Sic, Hong Hwa Yeon, And More Gear Up For Fierce Student Council Race In New Drama “I Am A Running Mate”

TVING’s original drama “I Am a Running Mate” has unveiled new stills ahead of its premiere!

Directed by Oscar-winning “Parasite” co-writer Han Jin Won in his directorial debut, “I Am a Running Mate” is a teen political drama that follows Noh Se Hoon (Yoon Hyun Soo), a student who becomes a laughingstock of his school after an unfortunate incident. However, his life takes a sharp turn when he’s suddenly nominated as a candidate for vice president in the student council election. Thrust into a whirlwind of cutthroat strategies and power plays, Noh Se Hoon is determined to reclaim his dignity and seize victory.

The newly released stills highlight the contrasting dynamics between the competing camps: Noh Se Hoon, Kwak Sang Hyun (Lee Jung Sic), and Yoon Jung Hee (Hong Hwa Yeon) on one side, and Yang Won Dae (Choi Woo Sung), Park Ji Hoon (Lee Bong Joon), and Ha Yoo Kyung (Kim Ji Woo) on the other.

Noh Se Hoon appears calm but visibly anxious, reflecting the emotional roller coaster awaiting him in the month leading up to the election. Kwak Sang Hyun, who handpicked Se Hoon as his running mate, is also seen wearing a sash and exuding quiet confidence with a charismatic smile. Viewers are left wondering why Sang Hyun chose Se Hoon, and what kind of chemistry the duo will showcase.

Yoon Jung Hee, the final member of their team, is rational and reserved, yet she seems to connect with Se Hoon, who gives his all in every situation. Despite her prickly demeanor, her intense gaze hints at her status as the top student—someone capable of shifting the election’s tides.

On the opposing side, Yang Won Dae appears composed and charismatic, embodying leadership and tenacity. His sharp gaze teases what bold strategies he may deploy to secure the top spot.

Park Ji Hoon, Se Hoon’s best friend and social butterfly, radiates swagger and carefree energy in the stills. Meanwhile, Ha Yoo Kyung, with her strong will and hidden ambition beneath her sweet appearance, is expected to stir things up and add intrigue to the story.

Yoon Hyun Soo commented on his character, saying, “Se Hoon may be an outsider, but he’s a pure-hearted student. I wanted to portray his growth and transformation as he encounters unexpected situations and different people.”

Lee Jung Sic added, “At first glance, Sang Hyun seems endlessly gentle, but he also has a cold side. His various personas will evolve and clash over the course of the eight episodes.”

Director Han Jin Won offered a glimpse into the drama’s essence, sharing, “By the end of the series, I hope each viewer will have found their own favorite character who stays with them.” He added, “We focused on casting actors with unique charms and personalities who wouldn’t overlap. Most importantly, we wanted actors who could communicate and connect well through ideas.”

“I Am a Running Mate” will be released in full on TVING on June 19.
