Seohyun And Taecyeon's Upcoming Drama “The First Night With The Duke” Reveals Intriguing Character Connections

KBS2’s upcoming drama “The First Night With the Duke” has unveiled a closer look at the characters’ dynamic relationships!

“The First Night with the Duke” is a fantasy romance drama about an ordinary college student whose soul is transported into a minor character in a romance novel, Cha Sun Chaek (Girls’ Generation’s Seohyun). After waking up in the world of the novel, she ends up spending the night with the obsessive male lead, Yi Beon (2PM’s Taecyeon).

The story ignites when Yi Beon, a cold and calculating male lead, becomes obsessed after their first night together. Cha Sun Chaek, possessed by the real-life college student K, finds herself caught in an unpredictable love story. As their romance unfolds, viewers are drawn into the complex web of relationships within the novel’s world.

The connections around Cha Sun Chaek and Yi Beon grow even more tangled with the introduction of Jo Eun Ae (Kwon Han Sol), Jung Soo Gyeom (Seo Bum June), and Do Hwa Seon (Chi Hae Won). Jo Eun Ae was K’s favorite character before the possession, and after, the two develop a close friendship.

Jung Soo Gyeom, a supporting male character who harbors feelings for Jo Eun Ae, becomes emotionally conflicted when Cha Sun Chaek’s unexpected arrival shakes things up. Meanwhile, Do Hwa Seon, who loves Yi Beon, grows increasingly wary of both Cha Sun Chaek and Jo Eun Ae, openly showing hostility as tensions rise.

The close-knit Cha family, centered on Cha Sun Chaek, adds warmth and humor to the story. Her father, Chief State Councilor Cha Ho Yeol (Seo Hyun Chul), is a devoted dad, while her mother, Yoon Deok Jung (Yoon Yoo Sun), is both graceful and strong. Together, they provide unwavering support for their youngest daughter.

Cha Sun Chaek’s three older brothers each show their love in different ways. The eldest, Cha Jang Ho (Lee Sang Woon), tries to act as the responsible head of the family. The second, Cha Doo Ho (Kim Shin Bi), who is passionate about medicine, cares for her in his own way. The youngest, Cha Se Ho (Yoon Jung Hoon), brings fun and energy with his clumsy, detective-like fascination with ghost stories and mysteries.

In contrast, a cold tension hangs over Yi Beon’s royal family and court. Seol Jong (Joo Suk Tae) took the throne through a purge. The kind but secretive queen dowager (Nam Ki Ae), royal relative Do Bae Myung (Jung Hee Tae), conservative Chief of Royal Secretary Jung Moon Seok (Jung Ho Bin), and merchant Jo Byung Moo (Kim Young Woong), who is also Jo Eun Ae’s adoptive father, each have their own agendas, creating a complex power struggle.

Despite the harsh political battles, some remain close to Yi Beon. His longtime attendant (Song Young Jae), who has been with him since childhood, knows him better than anyone. His devoted confidant Ma Yoon (Yoon Tae Ha) follows his orders without hesitation and protects him from any danger.

Prince Seonghyeon Lee Gyu (Lee Tae Sun) also plays a role. Childhood friends with Cha Sun Chaek and Yi Beon’s cousin, Lee Gyu returns to the capital after exile caused by power struggles. He views the changed Cha Sun Chaek with suspicion and clashes with Yi Beon, adding more tension to the story.

Mysterious characters also stand out. An enigmatic young boy (Lee Joo Won) appears at key moments in Cha Sun Chaek and Yi Beon’s journey, adding to the intrigue. Meanwhile, Seol Gi (Kim Ah Young), a shaman at a fortune-telling shop, creates an eerie atmosphere with cryptic words that seem to understand K, who possesses Cha Sun Chaek.

“The First Night with the Duke” premieres on June 11 at 9:50 p.m. KST and will be available on Viki.
