Seohyun, Taecyeon, Kwon Han Sol, And More Give Their Chemistry A Perfect Score In “The First Night With The Duke”

The cast of “The First Night with the Duke” has talked about their chemistry!

“The First Night with the Duke” is a fantasy romance drama about an ordinary college student whose soul is transported into a minor character in a romance novel, Cha Sun Chaek (Girls’ Generation’s Seohyun). After waking up in the world of the novel, she ends up spending the night with the obsessive male lead, Yi Beon (2PM’s Taecyeon).

Ahead of the premiere, the cast opened up about their on-set chemistry and working together.

Seohyun, who plays the bold and unconventional Cha Sun Chaek, shared her thoughts on working with Taecyeon, saying, “Since we spent so many years promoting as idols during the same era, there’s a bond that feels almost like camaraderie. He brought great energy to the set and always led the set brightly, which made it easy to act comfortably.”

When asked to rate their chemistry, she wittily referenced a 2PM hit song, saying, “It’s a 10 out of 10.”

Taecyeon, who portrays the cold male lead Yi Beon, also spoke warmly of their collaboration, “This was my first time acting with Seohyun, and it turned out to be a really fun and charming experience. She’s someone who uplifts everyone around her, and I definitely received positive energy from her.”

Kwon Han Sol, who plays the novel’s original heroine Jo Eun Ae, gave all her co-stars a perfect score of 100 and praised Seohyun and Taecyeon for their support: “Seohyun and Taecyeon kindly waited, encouraged, and gave me space to truly become Jo Eun Ae on set.”

She added, “Seo Bum June came so well-prepared that it pushed me to do better, and Chi Hae Won transformed the moment she stepped into character—it inspired me, too.”

Seo Bum June, who plays the novel’s charming second male lead Jung Soo Gyeom, recalled some of the challenges during filming: “Because it’s a historical drama, we often had to endure cold weather in the mountains at times. But because we leaned on each other, there was never a shortage of laughter on set.” He added, “Once the cameras started rolling, everyone became completely immersed in their roles, which made it easy for me to dive into mine as well.”

Chi Hae Won, who plays the villainess Do Hwa Seon, expressed her gratitude for the cast and crew, “No matter the environment, it’s rare to work with such good people, but ‘The First Night with the Duke’ was that rare case. Everyone, from the seniors to fellow castmates, was warm and full of good humor. I was truly thankful and enjoyed every step of the way.”

“The First Night with the Duke” premieres on June 11 at 9:50 p.m. KST and will be available on Viki.
