SM Entertainment Shares Update On Legal Action Against Malicious Posts Targeting aespa

aespa’s agency has taken firm legal action against malicious online attacks and reiterated warnings about possible legal consequences.

On June 5 KST, the group’s agency SM Entertainment released an official statement providing an update on their ongoing efforts against malicious posts. The agency emphasized that, based on the collected evidence, numerous cases are currently under investigation, and in some instances, the offenders have already been found guilty.

The agency’s full statement is as follows:

Hello, this is SM Entertainment.

We would like to provide an update regarding the legal proceedings related to malicious posts and comments, deep fakes, manipulated photos and videos, and text targeting our artist aespa, which constitute defamation, insult, sexual harassment, and other offenses.

Through reports from fans and our own monitoring, we have collected evidence of malicious posts and comments directed at aespa. Based on this evidence, we have filed complaints on charges such as insult, defamation, and the editing and distribution of false videos.

Many individuals have been identified and are currently under investigation. In some cases, final guilty verdicts have been issued, resulting in three years of imprisonment with five years of probation as well as fines.

As in this case, we have gathered substantial evidence regarding the posting of malicious content and comments—including false information, defamation, sexual harassment, insults, and mockery—on personal social media accounts and various online communities targeting aespa as well as the distribution of videos and images containing fake news and rumors. We are currently preparing further legal action.

We strongly urge everyone not to become directly or indirectly involved in such illegal activities.

Thank you.
