On June 26, tvN’s upcoming drama “How to Be a Landlord in South Korea” confirmed the casting of Ha Jung Woo, Im Soo Jung, Kim Jun Han, Krystal, and Shim Eun Kyung.

“How to Be a Landlord in South Korea” is a thriller drama that follows a struggling landlord who becomes entangled in crime to protect his family and property. While he achieves the coveted status of a landlord, mounting debts lead him to participate in a staged kidnapping. However, the plan spirals out of control as the fake kidnapping turns dangerously real.

Ha Jung Woo plays Ki Soo Jong, the head of a household who puts everything on the line to become a building owner through a loan, only to fall into deep debt. Ha Jung Woo is drawing attention with the announcement of his return to the small screen, marking his first television role in 19 years since the 2007 drama “H.I.T.” He is expected to deliver a powerful and captivating performance as Ki Soo Jong, portraying the character’s fight to protect his building while becoming increasingly trapped in a financial mess.

Im Soo Jung plays Kim Sun, the wife of Ki Soo Jong, a character who experiences a wide range of emotions as she becomes caught up in unfolding events. A longtime favorite with audiences, Im Soo Jung returns to television for the first time since the 2021 drama “Melancholia,” taking on a fresh new role. She is expected to bring a strong presence to the screen by portraying Kim Sun’s resilience and strength in the face of unpredictable and escalating challenges.

Kim Jun Han plays Min Hwal Seong, the close friend of Ki Soo Jong. Min Hwal Seong is a character whose business ventures and investments repeatedly fail, yet he manages to marry well and settle in as a live-in son-in-law. Driven by ambition and a desire for recognition, he becomes involved in unexpected situations. Kim Jun Han has earned praise for his strong performances in a variety of roles, and his portrayal in this series is highly anticipated.

Krystal, who continues to steadily build her acting career, has been cast as Jeon Yi Kyung, the wife of Min Hwal Seong and the daughter of a powerful real estate investor. Jeon Yi Kyung looks up to and relies on Ki Soo Jong and Kim Sun as a couple but soon finds herself drawn into a series of unexpected events. Krystal is expected to leave a lasting impression as she portrays Jeon Yi Kyung’s emotional journey from a sheltered upbringing to facing dramatic personal change.

Shim Eun Kyung plays Yo Na, a representative from Real Capital who puts pressure on Ki Soo Jong. Adopted overseas at a young age, Yo Na adds a sense of mystery and tension to the story. Shim Eun Kyung, known for her hit films “Sunny,” “Masquerade,” and “Miss Granny,” made headlines when she expanded her career to Japan. Her return to Korean television after six years with this project is drawing attention as a bold and anticipated transformation.

The series will be directed by Im Pil Sung, known for his distinctive style in the film “Persona.” Writer Oh Han Ki, who began his career as a novelist, is making his debut as a television screenwriter.

“How to Be a Landlord in South Korea” is set to begin filming in July and is scheduled to air on tvN in the first half of 2026.
