Jung Il Woo Talks About Upcoming Drama "Our Golden Days" + His Chemistry With Jung In Sun

Jung Il Woo has shared his thoughts on his upcoming drama “Our Golden Days”!

“Our Golden Days” is a generational family drama based on the idea that everyone experiences their own “glory days”—whether in the present, the past, or the future still to come.

Jung Il Woo will star as Lee Ji Hyuk, a man admired for his competence in every aspect of his life, whether it be his career or his love life. In contrast to his humorous and glamorous exterior, Lee Ji Hyuk is someone who struggles to overcome hardships after hitting rock bottom in his life.

Describing his first impression of the drama, Jung Il Woo recalled, “As soon as I first read the script, I felt a warm emotion that touched my heart, and I thought to myself that I wanted to do [this drama] no matter what. I think I was more drawn to this drama because it is quietly imbued with both happy and painful emotions as it follows the story of one person’s life.”

As for how he prepared for the role, he revealed, “In order to showcase the character’s personality, I tried short hair for the very first time. In terms of overall styling, I went for a neat and down-to-earth style, so that [Lee Ji Hyuk’s] active personality could show through. I also paid careful attention to my acting tone, so that I could speak through my gaze and my breathing, rather than the dialogue.”

When asked to sum up the character of Lee Ji Hyuk in three key phrases, Jung Il Woo chose “default strength,” “master of suffering quietly,” and “nonchalantly thoughtful.” The actor explained, “JI Hyuk is someone who is strong by default, without having to try particularly hard. And although he acts like he’s fine on the outside, he is a ‘master of quiet suffering’ who quietly suffers alone on the inside and then gets over it after struggling on his own. He’s also a thoughtful and considerate person who discreetly takes care of people even through the warmth of a remark he appears to toss out nonchalantly.”

Jung Il Woo also expressed confidence in his teamwork with his co-stars, noting, “In particular, the emotions that Jung In Sun and I exchange are similar, which makes it easier and more comfortable for me to immerse myself in my acting. I hope that this emotional chemistry is conveyed to viewers as well.”

Jung Il Woo concluded by remarking, “Everyone goes about living and enduring each and every day in their own way. ‘Our Golden Days’ is a story about the emotions we face in our everyday lives, along with the relationships and changes that blossom within them.
