Lee Bo Young, Lee Min Ki, And Kang Ki Young Explore Complex Emotions In New “Mary Kills People” Posters
MBC’s upcoming drama “Mary Kills People” has unveiled new character posters!
A remake of the Canadian series of the same name, “Mary Kills People” stars Lee Bo Young as Woo So Jung, an ER doctor who illegally provides euthanasia to patients with incurable illnesses. Lee Min Ki plays Jo Hyun Woo, a terminal brain tumor patient with no remaining treatment options. Kang Ki Young plays Choi Dae Hyun, a former plastic surgeon who supports Woo So Jung.
Lee Bo Young, Lee Min Ki, and Kang Ki Young draw attention in newly released character posters that vividly depict the psychological states of their characters, each caught in turmoil at the boundary between life and death. The three distinct posters show the actors bathed in soft, warm light, with their layered emotions portrayed in a blurred focus, creating a haunting mood.
First, Lee Bo Young conveys the deep anguish and anxiety of Woo So Jung, a doctor who helps patients choose death through euthanasia. Dressed in a white coat and resting her chin on one hand, Woo So Jung appears lost in thought, her expression and eyes reflecting the inner conflict she faces at the crossroads of life and death. Adding to the depth, the poster features a poignant question she asks herself and others: “If death is the only way to ease a patient’s pain, what should I do as a doctor?”
Lee Min Ki portrays the despair of terminal cancer patient Jo Hyun Woo, wearing a black hoodie with the hood pulled up, revealing only his face. Battling an inoperable brain tumor that does not respond to chemotherapy or radiation, Jo Hyun Woo has lost all hope for life, his eyes showing a deep sense of resignation. The phrase, “I do not want to live anymore,” appears alongside the image, powerfully expressing his emotional pain and leaving a lasting impact.
Kang Ki Young appears as Choi Dae Hyun, a steadfast ally who supports Woo So Jung in her work with assisted death. With a calm expression and eyes that reveal unwavering sincerity, he shows a quiet but firm resolve marked by sorrow. The phrase, “It’s heartbreaking. Let us help them through euthanasia,” reflects Choi Dae Hyun’s determination and offers strength to Woo So Jung, who continues to wrestle with the burden of her choices.
The production team stated, “In the character posters of Lee Bo Young, Lee Min Ki, and Kang Ki Young, the complex emotions of the three characters, caught between life and death, are portrayed with striking precision. The depth in their expressions and eyes perfectly captures the core themes of ‘Mary Kills People.’ Stay tuned for ‘Mary Kills People,’ a drama with a uniquely layered narrative.”
“Mary Kills People” will premiere on August 1 at 10 p.m. KST.
