BLACKPINK's Jennie Talks About Her Song "like JENNIE," Returning To Group Activities, And More
Jennie recently posed for a photo shoot for the fashion magazine Elle Korea.
In the interview that followed the shoot, Jennie spoke about her everyday life, sharing, “When I think of my favorite moment, it’s probably when I’m at home in really comfortable clothes, catching up on lost sleep, waking up late in the day, opening the window, and looking at the sky. It’s a really simple, ordinary thing, but I love the quiet and warmth I feel in that moment.”
When asked if the time she spent alone was sufficient nourishment for her group activities, as she’s going through a busy period with the start of BLACKPINK’s full-group activities and the release of their new song “JUMP,” Jennie replied, “While preparing my solo full-length album ‘Ruby,’ I learned and felt so much. I kept pushing forward, facing challenges, going through trial and error—and at some point, I realized I had become a little stronger.”
She continued, “Since each of the other members also went through their own personal journeys and came back, we’ve come to understand each other more deeply, and we’ve become a more flexible and mature team. I think these upcoming activities will feel really special, both for me and for the other members.”
With the name Jennie being heard everywhere these days, the singer was also asked about her name being featured in one of her biggest hits, “like JENNIE.” She commented, “In ‘like JENNIE,’ the name ‘Jennie’ is just a symbol. I made this song to convey the message that anyone can love themselves and shine in their own way, and they can use their own name [in the song]. ‘Jennie’ was only used because my name happens to be Jennie. I hope everyone who sings this song can feel that same sense of empowerment.”
Jennie added, “Even I gained confidence while singing the song. The path I’ve walked hasn’t been easy, but it reminded me that I’m heading in the right direction and that I’m doing well. It’s a song that resonates positively [with the listener].”
