Lee Bo Young Faces An Agonizing Choice As She Stands Over A Patient With A Pillow In “Mary Kills People”

MBC’s upcoming drama “Mary Kills People” has unveiled tense new stills of doctor Lee Bo Young!

A remake of the Canadian series of the same name, “Mary Kills People” stars Lee Bo Young as Woo So Jung, an ER doctor who illegally provides euthanasia to patients with incurable illnesses. Lee Min Ki plays Jo Hyun Woo, a terminal brain tumor patient with no remaining treatment options.

The newly released still shows Woo So Jung standing over a patient with a pillow in her hands. Torn between good and evil, life and death, she gazes intensely at the patient, her trembling fingertips revealing the weight of her agonizing choice. As she takes a deep breath and steps closer, viewers are left wondering what decision this supposedly life-saving doctor will ultimately make.

Lee Bo Young explained, “While playing So Jung, I focused on immersing myself in the grief of those around her and following those emotions.” She continued, “What I worried about most was whether it would seem like assisted death is an easy choice. I was deeply concerned it might appear like death is something anyone could lightly choose, so I wanted to convincingly portray how deeply So Jung agonizes over and hurts from making that decision. I paid close attention to every emotion so that viewers could see her as someone who truly empathizes with others’ pain and ultimately chooses assisted death out of profound contemplation.”

The production team commented, “This scene symbolically shows what kind of stance Woo So Jung takes between life vs. death, and her convictions as a doctor vs. her human emotions. Lee Bo Young’s overwhelming performance will provoke questions and deep empathy from viewers.”

“Mary Kills People” will premiere on August 1 at 10 p.m. KST.
