Watch: Lee Ha Nee, Bang Hyo Rin, Jin Sun Kyu, And Cho Hyun Chul Dive Into The Turbulent World Of 1980s Filmmaking In New Drama “Aema” Teasers

Netflix’s upcoming drama “Aema” has announced its release date with the unveiling of its first poster and teaser!

Set in 1980s Chungmuro, “Aema” is a fictional comedy that delves into the fierce realities behind the glitz and glamour of the film industry. It follows the struggles and triumphs of two actresses, Hee Ran (Lee Ha Nee) and Joo Ae (Bang Hyo Rin), during the creation of “Madame Aema,” the film that took South Korea by storm in the early 1980s.

The teaser poster shows top star Hee Ran and breakout rookie Joo Ae against the backdrop of a theater displaying the sign for the hit 1980s film “Madame Aema.”

From their eyes and expressions to their makeup and wardrobe, the contrasting looks of the two raise interest in the story they will tell and the unique chemistry they will bring to “Madame Aema.”

The tagline, “1981, a time to bare it all and sock it to the man,” heightens curiosity about how the two, refusing to conform to the power of an unjust era and system, will stand together and fight back in their own ways.

The teaser trailer, released with the poster, highlights the stories of four characters connected to “Madame Aema” and reveals the hidden side of Chungmuro during that era. Hee Ran, known as the top star of the 1980s, is angered by a script filled with exposure-heavy scenes and repeated use of the word “breasts.” She boldly declares a boycott to Goo Joong Ho (Jin Sun Kyu) but is forced to appear in “Madame Aema” because of her studio contract.

In response, film company CEO Goo Joong Ho demotes Hee Ran to the supporting role of Erica and, with rookie director Kwak In Woo (Cho Hyun Chul), holds a large-scale audition to find a new Aema, ultimately discovering the bold, charming Joo Ae. When Joo Ae says, “Please make me Jung Hee Ran,” Hee Ran replies, “Interesting,” hinting at subtle tension between the two and sparking curiosity about how their relationship will unfold.

The trailer also foreshadows a turbulent production process, including conflict between Hee Ran, who has always been in the spotlight, and rookie actor Joo Ae, who has never stood in front of a camera, as well as a clash between Joong Ho and In Woo.
