
Mun Ka Young In Talks Along With Choi Woo Shik For New Drama
Mun Ka Young may be teaming up with Choi Woo Shik for a new drama!
On July 30, MYDAILY reported that Mun Ka Young will be starring as the lead role of Heo Su A in the upcoming drama “Whale Star: The Gyeongseong Mermaid” (working title).
In response to the report, a source from Mun Ka Young’s agency PEAK J Entertainment revealed, “She received an offer to star in ‘Whale Star: The Gyeongseong Mermaid’ and is reviewing the offer.”
Based on a webtoon that reimagines Hans Christian Andersen’s “The Little Mermaid,” “Whale Star: The Gyeongseong Mermaid” is set in 1926 Gyeongseong (present-day Seoul) during Japanese occupation and follows the story of Kang Ui Hyeon, a man who dedicates everything to his country, and Su A, a woman who risks her life to protect him.
Mun Ka Young is in talks play the role of Heo Su A, a servant born into a pro-Japanese family in Gunsan who loves the sea and believes she is a fish. Despite being illiterate and never having received love or knowing what it feels like, she holds a quiet reverence for a humble life. However, the moment she looks away from the sea, fate robs her of her voice. She falls into the plight of a voiceless servant and becomes consumed by a desire for revenge.
Choi Woo Shik was previously reported to be in talks to play the role of the male lead Kang Ui Hyeon, who runs a photo studio while working as an independence activist specializing in espionage photography and codebreaking. The drama will also be helmed by director Heo Jin Ho of “My Mister” and “When Life Gives You Tangerines.”
