Han Ji Hyeon Is A Compassionate Documentary Producer In Upcoming Film “The Ugly”

The upcoming film “The Ugly” has offered a first look at Han Ji Hyeon’s character!

“The Ugly” follows the story of Im Dong Hwan (Park Jung Min), the son of Im Young Gyu (Kwon Hae Hyo)—a blind man who has become a skilled seal artisan—as he investigates the mysterious death of his mother, whose body was secretly buried for the past 40 years.

Han Ji Hyeon takes on the role of Kim Soo Jin, a documentary producer who follows and films Im Young Gyu. Through her warm and compassionate approach, she aims to reveal the most human and heartfelt aspects of his life.

The newly released still captures Kim Soo Jin’s dual nature—her gentle smile while filming reflects her empathy and professionalism, while another image shows her with a stern expression, possibly confronting a shocking truth. The contrast hints at the emotional weight and complexity of the story, especially after the sudden discovery of Im Dong Hwan’s mother’s body.

Speaking about her role, Han Ji Hyeon shared, “Chasing provocative material can seem malicious or selfish to some, but I spent a lot of time thinking about how to portray it in a more human light.”

Director Yeon Sang Ho praised her performance, noting, “With a structure that unfolds over five interviews, we needed both tension and immersion. Han Ji Hyeon brought that to life, delivering a natural sense of suspense through her portrayal of Kim Soo Jin, which gave the film its vibrancy.”

“The Ugly” is set to hit theaters in September.
