Lee Young Ae Dishes On Her Upcoming Drama “Walking On Thin Ice”
Lee Young Ae has shared her thoughts on her upcoming drama “Walking on Thin Ice”!
“Walking on Thin Ice” will tell the story of the dangerous partnership between Kang Eun Soo (Lee Young Ae), a mother desperate to protect her family, and Lee Kyung (Kim Young Kwang), a teacher who secretly leads a double life.
Lee Young Ae stars as Kang Eun Soo, a mother who once lived an ordinary life but is pushed to the brink overnight when her husband’s illness worsens and the family plunges into financial ruin. One day, she finds a suspicious bag left behind by someone and becomes unexpectedly connected to her daughter’s after-school art teacher, Lee Kyung. This partnership ultimately drives her to cross a forbidden line.
On why she chose to star in the drama, Lee Young Ae shared, “I chose the drama because I liked the power and message it conveys. I hope ‘Walking on Thin Ice’ becomes not only a new milestone for KBS dramas but also for me personally. While filming, I felt many emotions and synergies, which made me determined to give my best.”
She continued, “At first, I worried that the drug-related theme might be too heavy or make society seem darker. But I trusted Director Song Hyun Wook to handle the story in a way that is serious yet entertaining, and I believed that ‘Walking on Thin Ice’ could provide an opportunity to highlight social issues.”
Talking about her character Eun Soo, Lee Young Ae explained, “Kang Eun Soo is an ordinary mother and wife who is grounded in reality, but she gradually transforms into a person who goes beyond her true nature. At first, I thought I could act comfortably and like my usual self. However, her transformation beyond her true nature was extremely interesting.”
She added, “Eun Soo starts out living a peaceful and ordinary life, but as the story progresses, she becomes a morally complex character. She could be both a perpetrator and a victim, yet I hope she can still offer viewers a small sense of hope until the end.”
Regarding the physical demands of her role, she revealed, “In the latter half of the drama, there are many chase and action scenes, so I managed my stamina with strength training and treadmill workouts. There are scenes where Eun Soo’s previously calm emotions explode, and I hope viewers feel catharsis through those scenes.”
Lee Young Ae also expressed complete trust in her co-stars. She remarked, “I was delighted to work with actors I have always admired. Kim Young Kwang brings energy and spontaneity, creating great synergy. Park Yong Woo’s serious approach to acting made me reflect on myself.”
“Walking on Thin Ice” will premiere on September 20 at 9:20 p.m. KST.
