Mink Tops Billboard Chart

Korean-Japanese Mink’s "Glory of Life” finally takes the number one slot on Billboard magazine’s Hot Dance Club Play Chart. It has been 11 weeks since the song entered the list.

Topping the U.S. chart for April 8 _ which is a compilation of the most popular songs playing in clubs based on playlists submitted by DJs _ means that it is the most listened to track in clubs today.

"Honestly, the fact that my song has made number one hasn’t quite sunk in. Words just can’t express my emotions,” Mink said in an e-mail interview with local media.

The 22-year-old, who went to to study in her early teens, signed on to Avex Trax after company executives listened to a demo she had sent in and offered her a contract.

Tokyo-based Avex is one of the world’s largest independent record labels and is responsible for producing some of J-pop’s most popular singers like Amuro Namie.

Mink added that she intends pursue music in the market and other parts of the world, as well as continue singing in where she debuted and has already established a career.

The following is an excerpt from the interview.

Question : How would you describe the genre of music you see your songs to be and the musical style you are aiming to pursue.

Mink : There is no genre nor is there a particular style. You could say a style of all my own? I hope that when people think of Mink they think of not only a singer with great vocals but a singer who really can touch her audiences.

Q : What have you got planned for your activities back in ?

A : My second single “4 Love” will be released on April 19. I also hope to meet with fans through more live performances.

Q: What is your ultimate goal?

A: That my music is heard by more people in more places. I would also like to someday connect my career with world peace.

Q: The Korean media and fans have been showing great interest as your song started to show strong presence on the Billboard chart in March. Did you know that Mink was the most searched name among all pop stars in the Internet portal sites?

A: Yes, I am aware of it. I would like to thank everybody and because of their support I feel that my soul has been filled with happiness.

Q: Is there anything you would like to say to your fans in ?

A: No words could possibly express how much I appreciate your love and support. You all mean so much to me. I will always pray that you are well and happy. God bless you.
