Uptown to Release Album in Japan

July 12, 2006

Hip-hop group Uptown has received an offer from a famous Japanese record company to produce an album.

Uptown’s agency, Livecode Entertainment, said June 12 that the record company expressed its willingness to produce the group’s album with Japanese vocals in Japan. The agency’s CEO said the Japanese company credited Uptown’s songs as highly appealing to the public as they feature good melodies and do not focus exclusively on rap.

A person from the Japanese record company will visit Uptown’s joint concert with Japanese hip-hop group Soul’d Out slated for July 28 in Seoul and discuss Uptown’s advancement into the Japanese market.

Uptown’s agency says the group will begin writing new songs with Japanese vocals immediately after the negotiations and will release its first Japanese album in December.

After releasing the album, the group will stay in Japan to perform.

Uptown’s new song, “My Style,” from the group’s new album that came after a five-year wait, has topped broadcast frequency charts for eight weeks in a row, with the song being played 1,162 times last month alone.
