Kwon Sang-woo to Give His Name to S'pore Orchid
Aug 28, 2006
The hugely popular Korean actor Kwon Sang-woo, who is traveling to Singapore and Indonesia to meet his fans there, joins Margaret Thatcher and Princess Diana in having an orchid hybrid named after him in the city state, an honor usually reserved for guests of state. Cosmetics maker TheFACEshop says Kwon will be visiting the two countries on Sept. 1-5.
The actor, who has been the face of TheFACEshop for three years, will hold press conferences and leave his handprints in cement in Singapore and Jakarta as well as taking part in fan meet-n-greets. Most importantly, an Orchid Naming Ceremony will add "Kwon Sang-woo" to Singapore’s National Orchid Garden.
Other stippled hybrids there are named after Laura Bush, the U.S. first lady, and her Korean counterpart, President Roh Moo-hyun’s wife Kwon Yang-sook. Following this first round of visits, TheFACEshop plans a second tour, that will include Taiwan and the Philippines in October.
