Weekly Music Chart 2007 - September week 2

No. 1 song Big Bang's "거짓말" (Lie) jumped 24 spots all the way to No. 1 this week, tying with Brian's 가지마 (Don't Go) earlier this year as songs making the biggest jump to No. 1. Big Bang has conquered almost every chart in Korea, from sales charts to SBS Inky Gayo Mutizen award to various internet charts to mobile ringtone rankings. Even in KBS Music Bank's new ranking segment this song is No. 1. When M!Countdown resumes next week, Big Bang is the favorite to be No. 1 as well. We may see a perfect 1000 points for this song next week. It is very impressive considered Big Bang holds off a lot of strong challengers as well.

Biggest Mover of the week: Needless to say, the honor also goes to Big Bang's "거짓말" (Lie).

Hot shot debut: F.T Island's follow up song "천둥" (Thunder) made a thunderous debut at No. 3 this week, one of the highest debut this year. This song is more up-tempo than their No. 1 hit "사랑앓이" (Painful Love) but still considered a mid-tempo rock ballad. The arrangement of this song should enable the members to show off their instrument playing skills and tell fans that they are a true band. Korea's top songwriter Cho Young Soo wrote this song for F.T Island. They may be anticipating an interesting battle for No. 1 with Big Bang.

2. Shin Hye Sung – 첫사람 (First Person) – Kind of lost in the shadow between Big Bang's impressive jump to No. 1 and F.T Island's great debut at No. 3. Actually, this song moves up 4 spots to No. 2 and just lost the No. 1 battle by 8 points. It should still be a major challenger of the top spot the next few weeks.

5. Lee Seung Ki – 착한거짓말 (White Lie) – In any other weeks, this song should be the hot shot debut. This is not a common week though. Lee Seung Ki is blessed to work with top songwriters on each album: Psy wrote his debut song "Because You Are My Woman", Kim Do Hoon wrote the title song on his last album "Words Hard To Tell". This time, Lee Seung Ki collobrates with Cho Young Soo on this song. It is a very nice ballad that showcases Lee Seung Ki's matured voice. This is another song that should be battling for No. 1 soon.

7. SNSD – 다시만난세계 (Into The New World) – SM's new girl group made an impressive 11-spot jump to No. 7 this week, becoming their first top 10 hit. This song tops the ChartKorea airplay list, and is also No. 2 at M!Countdown. SM has launched another successful young group and we should watch them out.

18. Black Pearl – 좋은걸어떡해 (What Can I Do If I Like It) – A female group that has both the look and the voice. This week they finally made it into the top 20. With more appearances on gayo shows, people are starting to recognize them. Definitely have the potential to move up further.

25. Crown J – 그녀를뺏겠습니다 (I'll get her back) – Rapper Crown J is back with his 2nd album. This song is already debuting higher than any of his songs from his 1st album. Commercial hip-hop songs have been very successful in Korea lately, and Crown J is another choice and a candidate to breakthough on this album.

29. Choon Ja – 사랑이뭐길래 (What is love) – Perhaps the female singer with the most front-edged image in Korea, Choon Ja used to have bald head and tattoos on her body. Now after a 180 degrees transformation, she's opted for a more conservative and elegant look. This song is also a more traditional ballad which is different from her previous funky dance songs.

36. MC The Max – Run To The Sky – This song replaces their hit "눈물" (Tears). Technically it is not a new song as it appeared on a cartoon "Iron Kid" OST last year. Recently, a new version called "Cooler Mix" has been released and it makes onto our chart.

38. S.Jin – 백번을 불러도 (Even If I Call Out A Hundred Times) – A highly recommended song. S.Jin is an underrated R&B ballad singer. He mainly releases digital singles and this one is no exception. I think this is his best song so far.

45. Kim Sa Rang – 위로 (Recognition) – Not to be confused with the actress, this Kim Sa Rang is a highly regarded male rocker who returned with a new album recently after a long lay off. The album made it into the top 10 in sales and this song also made it into our chart.

Songs written by Cho Young Soo – Korea's most popular songwriter sets another record this week: 4 of the top 5 songs are written by him, including Shin Hye Sung's "첫사람" (First Person), F.T Island's "천둥" (Thunder), See Ya's "결혼할까요" (Shall we marry), Lee Seung Ki's "착한거짓말" (White Lie). In addition, Zi-A's "물끄러미" (Absentmindedly) is also written by him so he has half of the top 10 songs. Another top 20 song from Cho is Black Pearl's "좋은걸어떡해" (What Can I Do If I Like It). Most of these songs are of different variety, as he shows us that he's more than a R&B ballad writer. There are more songs written by Cho Young Soo that is expected to debut on our chart soon, including Hong Kyung Min's "못난이" (Fool) and Zi-A's follow up duet with KCM "내마음별과같이" (Together With The Star in My Heart).
