Weekly Music Chart 2007 - September week 3

No. 1 song Big Bang’s "거짓말" (Lie) strengthens its hold on the top spot with a high score. It hasn’t quite reached the perfecet score of 1000 points yet, but the song’s score of 974 is one of the highest we recorded recently in a week. Looks like this song will stay at the top for a while, even though the competition is getting stronger (top 4 songs all scored 900 or above).

Biggest Mover of the week: Rocker Kim Sa Rang’s "위로" (Recognition) is our biggest mover this week, up 17 spots from 45 to 28. Like most rock albums, this song’s scores are primarily coming from its strong album sales. But it is a good song and has the potential to continue to move up.

Hot shot debut: A collaboration between The Name and Choi Jini (lead singer of Rumble Fish) "이별…후에" (After…Break Up) is our highest debut at No. 24 this week. Some of you might remember Shin Hye Sung and Lyn’s "After…Love" earlier this year. This song is a continuation of that song and also of that music drama. It is an interesting duet, as The Name is known for his R&B songs, and Choi Jini is known for her rock songs. This time they sing together on this pop ballad. It should be a first for both singers.

New songs: We have 8 new songs and 1 re-entry this week:

Songs to watch out:

4. Lee Seung Ki – 착한거짓말 (White Lie) – Surprisingly edged out Big Bang’s "Lie" as the new No. 1 song on M!Countdown this week. Even though the song only moves up 1 spot this week, it should be in the top 3 next week and also challenge Big Bang for the top spot.

9. Black Pearl – 좋은걸어떡해 (What Can I Do If I Like It) – The R&B female quartet scored their first top 10 song this week, moving up 9 spots to No. 9. As they get more exposure, this song gets more popular as well. They are often compared with SNSD by the media because both debuted the same time (and both are in the top 10 now). But the comparison ends here as both groups’ music styles are totally different. Since this song is moving into the top 10, it means songwriter Cho Young Soo has 5 songs in the top 10 this week.

12. Jang Hye Jin – 가라 사랑아 (Go Away Love) – A change of style served well for Jang Hye Jin, as this up-tempo song is moving up fast and close to the top 10. We usually see singers moving from up-tempo dance songs to ballads as they grow older. Jang Hye Jin is taking the opposite route and still finding success.

15. Crown J – 그녀를뺏겠습니다 (I’ll get her back) – Rapper Crown J scored his first top 20 hit with this song, and perhaps his first top 10 hit is not that far away. This song has the ingredients to be successful in the mainstream.

31. Hong Kyung Min – 못난이 (Fool) – Hong Kyung Min recently released his 8th album to celebrate his 10th year in the business. In his early days, Hong Kyung Min had a lot of up-tempo hit songs but lately he’s been focusing on ballads. This song serves his current style well. Yet another hit song written by Cho Young Soo.

36. JJ – Love Actually – One of a few up-tempo dance songs that I like this year. JJ (real name: Kim Kyung Ah) is a 17-year old new female singer. She released her first album "Ruling" in August but so far we haven’t seen her performing on any gayo shows yet. This song is an R&B dance song with a good rapping intro. It reminds me of Nan-A’s "Like Dat" last year which did not become a hit but received good reviews.

48. Ty Keys – 연상연하 (Age gap relationship) – Their 1st hit "I’m Sorry" received excellent reviews but failed to make it onto our chart. This song finally did, as they gained more exposure now. A very talented co-ed R&B group with a male and a female vocalist plus a rapper. Look out for them.
