Weekly Music Chart 2007 - September week 5

No. 1 song There is no slowing down for Big Bang’s "거짓말" (Lie) as it remains at No. 1 for the 4th straight week. The gap between Big Bang and Lee Seung Ki’s No. 2 song "착한거짓말" (White Lie) widens again, plus Big Bang’s "Lie" is the new No. 1 song on M!Countdown this week. It is likely that this song will continue to stay at No. 1 next week.

Biggest Mover of the week: Baek Ji Young’s "사랑하나면 돼 (Loving one person is enough) moves up 20 spots to No. 7 this week, proving that last year’s bit hit "사랑안해" (I Won’t Love) is no fluke as she continues to provide us with another wonderful ballad. This song will face some tough competition in the next few weeks though. Let’s see if it will reach No. 1.

Hot shot debut: Brown Eyed Girls’ "너에게속았다" (I Got Fooled By You) is our highest debut at No. 16. This is the title song of their 2nd album, replacing their summer hit "Oasis". This time BEG are returning to their R&B roots (which they called hybrid soul) by giving us a mid-tempo ballad. Each member contributes almost equally in this song. In my opinion, they are the most talented female group in Korea now. Let’s see if they will gain more recognition with this song and their new album.

New songs: Another week with 11 new songs.

Songs to watch out:

5. Wheesung – 사랑은 맛있다 ♡ (Love is Delicious) – Just missing out on being the week’s biggest mover, up 17 spots to No. 5. All title songs from Wheesung’s first 4 albums have reached No. 1 on the chart. Let’s see if this song will so the same and challenge Big Bang soon.

9. Crown J – 그녀를뺏겠습니다 (I’ll get her back) – Crown J finally scores his first ever top-10 hit with this song. There isn’t many hip-hop songs on the chart lately. We can expect this song to remain strong in the coming weeks.

13. 8Eight – 사랑을잃고난노래하네 (Forget Love and Sing) – This song is moving up a lot faster than expected, up 13 spots this week and is inching close to the top 10. All R&B fans should be delighted listening to this song. 8Eight has been performing almost every gayo show as well and it should help this song a lot.

20. V.O.S. – 매일매일 (Everyday Everyday) – Not too many people may have noticed, but hits keep coming for this R&B group. Just when their collaboration with Hyun Joon of Monday Kiz "나 이젠" (I Now) left the chart, this new song of their own comes in. It is from their newly released single album. Songwriter Cho Young Soo adds yet another song to his impressive lineup of top 20 songs lately.

22. Drunken Tiger – 주정 (Craft) – Tiger JK is back and this song has a decent debut, thanks mostly to its good sales numbers. Like I mentioned above, there are not too many hip-hop songs on the chart lately. This is another one that should make a difference.

24. See Ya – 얼음인형 (Ice Doll) – Hits also keep coming for these girls as this song is already the 3rd single from their highly successful 2nd album. Their original fans may love this song as See Ya is returning to a more R&B-oriented style like their 1st album. The song is about a frozen heart being able to thaw upon the return of a lover. The music video, starring Lee Yo-won and Jo Hyun-jae, is a continuation of the title track of See Ya’s 2nd album, "Love’s Greeting."

25. Lee Soo Young – 단발머리 (Bob Hair Cut) – The queen of ballad is back with her 8th album after 1.5 years. Since her last album, Lee Soo Young is exploring new kinds of music. This song is very refreshing to listen to with excellent violin arrangements. Very good chance to be the biggest mover next week when sales of this album start to count.

Top songwriters dominate the top 10 – Besides Cho Young Soo’s impressive current run (still 4 top 10 songs this week), two other top songwriters are getting into the mix now. Kim Do Hoon has 2 top 10 songs in Baek Ji Young’s "사랑하나면 돼" (Loving one person is enough) and Jang Hye Jin’s "가라 사랑아" (Go Away Love), while Park Keun Tae has Wheesung’s "사랑은 맛있다 ♡" (Love is Delicious) at No. 5. These 3 songwriters have written the most number of hits in k-pop for the last few years. Their presence is heavily felt in the top 10 now.
