Weekly Music Chart 2007 - October week 1

No. 1 song: Big Bang continue to hold onto the top spot for the 5th week in a row with "거짓말" (Lie). This time they held off another strong challenger in Wheesung’s "사랑은 맛있다 ♡" (Love is Delicious). Only one other song stayed 5 weeks at No. 1 on our chart this year and that was Ivy’s "유혹의 소나타" (Temptation of Sonata). If "Lie" spends another week at No. 1, it will equal Sung Shi Kyung’s "거리에서" (On the Street) as the only song that spent 6 consecutive weeks at No. 1. With this impressive run, "Lie" for sure will be nominated as a candidate for "Song of the Year" on our year end awards.

Biggest Mover of the week: After a disappointing 2nd week on the chart, Wonder Girls’ "Tell Me" made a big 22-spot jump this week to No. 5. They are performing this song full time again now after a brief hiatus. Maybe that’s why the song wasn’t moving up as expected last week. With this hit, Wonder Girls are getting back into the picture for the best new artiste award this year, which is as competitive as I ever recalled.

Hot shot debut: Lee Ki Chan’s digital single "사랑도…이별도…" (Love Too…Separation Too…) is our highest debut this week at No. 19. Lee Ki Chan has our first half No. 1 song this year with "미인" (A Beauty). This new song is just as good a ballad, and it further solidifies Lee Ki Chan’s chances at the year end awards. Kim Do Hoon, who has 2 other top 10 hits this week, wrote this song for Lee Ki Chan.

Songs to watch out:

3. Baek Ji Young – 사랑하나면 돼 (Loving one person is enough) – She already proved to us that last year’s success was no fluke. This song is jumping up 4 more spots to the top three in just its 3rd week on the chart, and this ballad ready to get into the mix of battling for No. 1 next week.

9. Lee Soo Young – 단발머리 (Bob Hair Cut) – While it is true that her popularity and record sales are not as strong as her prime during the 4th, 5th, and 6th albums, this song is perhaps one of her best songs ever, moving up 16 spots this week. Since "라라라" (La La La) in her 4th album, all title songs from Lee Soo Young’s studio albums have reached No. 1. She would love to continue this trend, but will face a lot of tough competition.

12. V.O.S – 매일매일 (Everyday Everyday) – This song may become the trio’s biggest hit as they are looking to top "시한부" (Time Limit) which went to No. 6 early last year. They harmonized very well on this song and it is already one of the top songs in various internet charts.

22. Stony Skunk – 자장가 (Lullaby) – Perhaps the top reggae group in Korea, this song is quietly moving up the chart and may become the duo’s first top 20 hit next week. Despite not performing much on music shows, this song is doing well on a lot of music charts in Korea.

28. Cherry Filter – 느껴봐 (Feel It) – Following the footsteps of fellow rock band Jarium, Cherry Filter have released a remake album. This song is not as hardcore rock as their usual hits, but still makes a decent debut this week. A lot of singers won’t perform on these remake albums, but Cherry Filter are performing and it should help the popularity of this song.

30. Na Yoon Kwon – 뒷모습 (Back View) – A very underrated R&B singer. Perhaps we knew him best for his duet "안부" with Byul. This ballad is from his recently released 2nd album and he is looking to gain more recognition with this song.

39. M – The "M" Style – Unfortunately his album title song "Stomp" was falling far short of expectations by missing the top 10. Let see if this funky tune can make up the difference. Epik High’s Tablo, who is a good friend of Min Woo, is featured in this song.

42. ERU – 둘이라서 (Because it’s the two of us) – Pressure is on ERU after he produced two breakthrough hits "까만안경" (Black Glasses) and "흰눈" (White Snow) on his last album. This is another good ballad which is closer to the style of "White Snow" but more emotional. Don’t be misled by the low debuting position. This song is expected to be the biggest mover next week.

49. Young Ae – 사랑,버리고버려도 (Love, abandoned again and again) – No relation to actress Lee Young Ae, this is a highly recommended song by a new female artiste with a husky voice. She brings out all the emotions to fit this ballad. Check out this song.
