Weekly Music Chart 2007 - December week 1

No. 1 song: Wonder Girls’ "Tell Me" continues to be No. 1 for the 6th straight week, becoming only the 4th song on this chart to spend 6 weeks at the top. If they are No. 1 again next week, they will tie Big Bang’s "Lie" for the record of 7 weeks at No. 1. Youn Ha’s "혜성" (Comet) is still No. 2, followed by Koyote’s "사랑공식" (Love Formula). The chart has not been moving too fast in the the last two weeks partly because M!Countdown is on hiatus for a few weeks.

Biggest Mover of the week: Super Junior’s follow up song "Marry U" is our biggest mover this week, up 19 spots to No. 26. This is also the title song for the repackaged version of their 2nd album. As we get closer to winter, Super Junior have slowed down with this mid-tempo song, which is certainly not slow in moving up the chart. The music video is about someone holding a concert for a former lover, confessing love and a couple re-committing themselves to each other.

Hot shot debut: Project group ANYBAND, consisting of an all-star lineup of BoA, Tablo, Xiah Junsu and Jin Bora, has our highest debut at No. 21 this week with "Talk Play Love". As the group name implies, they are advertising for a mobile phone company’s latest project. Tablo wrote the music and lyrics and also raps, while BoA and Xiah perform the vocals, and Jin Bora plays the piano. They are not going to perform this song on gayo shows, but it features a music video, which resembles a sci-fi movie. Fans should definitely check it out.

Songs to watch out:

6. SNSD – 소녀시대 (Girls Generation) – Having won the Inky Gayo Mutizen award last week, this is the only newer song in the top 10 that is moving up this week. The album is selling well and they are getting more and more popular each day. This song may be ready to challenge for the top spot in a few weeks.

12. Suh Young Eun – 아름다운구속 (Beautiful Restriction) – Suh Young Eun is doing very well in her female version of this rock ballad, previously sung by Kim Jong Seo. As usual, she’s quietly moving up towards the top 10 without much promotion. One of my favorite songs recently. Check it out.

32. Outsider – 남자답게 (Like A Man) – Rarely will I talk about a song that drops, but there haven’t been too many new songs to mention and this hip-hop song is really growing on me. It has a unique piano arrangement and Outsider’s rapping is very smooth and fluent. The album is a top-20 seller on Hanteo’s weekly sales chart, not bad for a debuting artiste.

40. Fly To The Sky – I am sorry – Like many singers these days, Fly To The Sky also released a repackaged version of their 7th album. This is the title song, which is a familiar R&B ballad that FTTS fans will love.

46. J – 열흘만 (Just 10 Days) – J made a successful come back in the summer with a digital single duet with Lee Jung "With tears". Now she is releasing her long awaited 6th album. This ballad is about candidly and poignantly asking someone you’ve just broken up with for 10 days to sort things out and come to a well-thought-out conclusion.

edward1849: Title song from Brown Eyed Soul’s 2nd album "The Wind, The Sea, The Rain". It’s the group’s first album in 5 years. Fans have not forgotten them as the album became a top seller just a few days after its release. "My Story" is an R&B ballad with a melody that reminds us of a lot of Brown Eyed’s songs. Leader Naul (ex-Brown Eyes member) has an excellent performance in the chrous part of the song.
