Ha Dong Kyun isn’t a name you hear too often when you enter the Kpop world. Unfortunately, it’s a shame that some actually miss out on such a stellar vocalist. As a member of Wanted, Ha Dong Kyun became recognized for his deep voice as well as his looks. Even after the unfortunate events that happened in the past, Ha Dong Kyun is still pushing on strong. His first solo album proved to be a success and his song, Please Love Her, turned into a hit. Now, the singer is back again for another try. With his new look and unforgettable style, Ha Dong Kyun is back.

The title track, 나비야 (NaBiYa;Butterfly), is exactly what you would expect from the vocalist. A heartwrenching , yet beautiful song that talks about one missing another, Ha Dong Kyun pulls it off with ease. His vocals are emotional and the husky quality only adds more flavour to the song. It’s his voice that makes this song stand out so much. Musically, the song has quite a haunting feel, but doesn’t stray too far from the usual Kpop style of ballads. The use of strings and the underlying guitar chords definitely keep the ballad modern, as well as give a sense of simplicity.

If that’s not enough, the album is packed with a variety of styles. Other songs that stand out include 다시 사랑한다면 (Feat.김보아,맹지나,전혜원) (Dashi Saranghandamyeon;To Love Again), which is a beautiful R&B ballad that includes vocals from some female singers. The song focuses on the acoustic guitar and the vocals, which are all well done. For those not looking for ballads, there are also songs like 우정가 (Ujeongga;Song Of Friendship) and 골목길 러브 스토리 (Feat.전혜원) (Golmokkil Reobeu Seutori;Back Alley Love Story). The former uses a slightly more upbeat pop/rock style, while the latter is an upbeat disco-esque song.

Another Corner is a strong album from Ha Dong Kyun. Though the majority of the album includes ballads, which is Ha Dong Kyun’s strong point, it also has a variety of styles that keep listeners tuned in. For those looking for another ballad singer and one that is similar to that of artistes such as Park Hyo Shin, then this might be the one.
