Even
though remake albums are not as abundant as a few years before, they
have proved to be a good way to solidify or to revitalize a singer’s
career. Singing newly-rearranged hit songs from the past is convenient
to get listeners’ attentions. Park Hye Kyung already has a unique voice
and singing style, and she seems to be a perfect fit to remake songs in
her own style.

Having said that, if you are a die-hard fan of
the original version, you may have a hard time accepting a drastically
different new version. But overall, it seems fans are accepting this
album as we can see from its popularity in terms of chart performance
and record sales.

Unlike most remake albums, "When A Woman Falls
In Love" consists of many great hits previously sung by male artistes.
The title song, "Between Love And Friendship", is a wonderful love song
about the feelings between friends who turn into lovers. Pinocchio
originally sang this song and Lee Soo Young was the first one to remake
it in her "Classic" album. Park Hye Kyung’s version is very different
from the previous two versions. She did a great remake by giving a
different style and emotion to the song.

The first and the
last track of the album are also worth mentioning. "Wonderful
Separation" (track 1) was a hit song previously sung by Kim Gun Mo, and
Park Hye Kyung voice fits this ballad very well. It is a great choice
to be the first song of the album. "Reality" is the only English song
on the album. This Richard Sanderson song was very popular among Asian
fans in the early 80s. It is nice to see a new version today.

One
disappointment is the cover of Shin Seung Hoon’s big hit, "I Believe".
Like other songs from this album, it was completely rearranged. As it
is the most recent hit song on this album (the original version was a
hit just 6 years ago), most listeners would probably find it hard to
accept this version.

Overall, this is an okay album. I’ve
listened to most of Park Hye Kyung’s albums and she has had better
albums than this one. But to give her credit, she did a good job in
remaking these songs. It does have a refreshing feeling listening to a
new version of these oldies again.
