Biography.

Best known as a member of the popular idol boy band Shinhwa, Kim Dong Wan made his debut in 1998 with the six-member group as a vocalist. He began singing bigger parts in Shinhwa’s 7th album "Brand New" and since 2002 has been trying his hand at acting. Last year, Kim followed in the footsteps of fellow Shinhwa band-mates by branching out as a solo singer, releasing his solo album, "Kimdongwan Is", on July 5. He is the fourth Shinhwa member, after Lee Min Woo, Shin Hye Sung and Jun Jin, to go solo.

Kim’s solo efforts have received tremendous support from the rest of Shinhwa. His album is a labour of love that features collaborations with band-mates Andy Lee (Loving Summer), Shin Hye Sung (The One Left Alone) and Eric Mun (My Love). Lee Min Woo chipped in with writing, composing and arranging the song "My Love," while Jun Jin helped with choreography. Other big names like MC Mong, Byul, and Epik High’s DJ Tukutz contributed to make the album a star-studded release. In October that year, Kim released a repackaged version of the album, offering sentimental melodies such as My Fault.

Kim’s first single, Handkerchief, is a lovely ballad written by Yoon Myung Sun, who also wrote Eru’s "Black Glasses" and Magoply’s "Flight Girl". The popular song won the Mutizen Award at the 2007 SBS Inkigayo.

After the success of his solo album, Kim has returned with his second album, "The Secret". Currently enjoying a good run on the charts is the title song Secret, a ballad mixed with the electronica genre. It also includes a narration by Girls’ Generation member Tiffany. Once again, Shinhwa have lent their support, with Eric featuring in the song Honey. Other notable offerings include You Don’t Know Me, a duet with Jade Valerie of Sweetbox, and Psy Kiss, again written by Yoon Myung Sun.

Prior to his solo run, Kim had enjoyed success on the acting front. His acting efforts were recognised when he won the Best Actor award at the KBS Drama Awards for his role in the 2005 TV drama “A Farewell to Sorrow”. He also acted in the films “Emergency Act 19” and "Spin Kick".
